Joined: 28/06/2020(UTC) Posts: 2 Location: Scotland, Edinburgh		I've just bought the very nice 4228 Rheingold coaches set and although it is beautiful, it needs to be weathered to really bring it to life. I have weathered stock in the past in my British Railways modelling days (this is one of my scratchbuilt coaches I subtly weathered a few years ago) and I want to do the same now for my growing collection of Swiss and German stock. My question is: Can I safely use weathering paint that is thinned with enamel thinners without ruining the original Marklin finish? Thanks in advance for any advice received.

Joined: 18/03/2007(UTC) Posts: 6,667 Location: Brisbane, Australia		Hi Buntobox, If I am not mistaken the 4228 Rheingold coaches are tinplate, and the paintwork was done in a lithographic process (ink). It is very easy to destroy this finish. (Think Hornby Dublo Mk 1 and earlier coaches). You would be best to test your spray weathering with enamel thinners on an unwanted coach or wagon (perhaps an old tin-plate Hornby Dublo wagon which you can get for a few pounds). Kimball
