I was struggling to find out how to weather my rails on my c track to give the proper rusty look. I visited a local hobby shop and was directed to a product from Floquil called enamel paint markers.

They have one available in Rust color which works very nicely.

And here is the result.

It is very easy to use and convenient. The felt tip aplicator does get dull as shown in the picture. I wear a magnifying visor when painting rails, and it goes very quickly.

The weathering kit numnber is FL-3801 - it is only available as a set of three colors, Rust / Rail Brown / Tie Brown.

that looks like a nicer pen than I have been using - I have used brown markers on my K-Track but it is always a nice matt finish that you achieved... tahnks for sharing the name...

Neat idea. Do they have markers with a finer tip? Z rail is a bit smaller....

Maybe it has something to do with frequency of use, or lubricating practices or the material used for brake pads/blocks, but the rails here in Sydney end up a dirty brownish grey.

The tip shown is a bit dull. The tip is felt which transfers the paint from the reservoir to the point.

It can be sharpened with a sharp hobby knife.

I have never seen a Z Track Rail, so I do not know of it will work there.
