Hi All,

Does the #37845 class 50 50th birthday locomotive come with a great deal of weathering effects, such as white spots representing steam residue, drippings representing water or oil, peeling paint and with dents and dings to mimic how "real" locomotives looked after time in service?

Is each locomotive different in its make?

Cheers,
Ranjit

Hi Ranjit,

First of all, yes, it does come with a reasonable amount of weathering details, which are applied by hand. As a result of that, all locos are more or less unique. Some steam residue is usually modeled, however, dents and dings are not as those are not that easy to model with only paint... wink
For some more pictures of the model, take a look over here: http://www.saebonet.com/...es/germany/37845_web.jpg (website by Svein, who is a member here) or here: http://www.lokdepot.de/i...2050%20gealtert%20B1.jpg

Hi All,

Does anyone have a close-up of the weathering effects on the birthday locomotive?

Cheers,
Ranjit

Hi Sander,

Thank you for the links.

You see, the drippings are on the tender in your link #1. Do you also have these drippings modeled on the other side and on the top of the locomotive?

Cheers,
Ranjit

I can post a link to a higher resolution version of Sander's link #1.

I just have to upload it first. Be patient.

Thanks for the hi-res photo, Svein. Do you have a picture of the other side and the top of the locomotive?

Yes, Davy, the #37845 Class 50 is truly a nice locomotive, but I am little concerned about the weathering effects. Personally, in real life, German steam engines don't look so dilapidated in service at least the ones that I have seen a couple of years ago. I feel that the weathering effects are either not so well done or over done.

Can someone can share close-up pictures of the weathering effects of their locomotive? I would like to make some comparisons.

Cheers,
Ranjit

Ranjit hi,

Although when those steamers were still operational in the 70's they were very dirty - search on the net and you'll find photos.

On the other hand, I agree with you; weathering on anniversary class 50 locos are poorly done. They don't look realistic, just as if the person doing it had a rush - whatever the reason, this loco is supposed to be a special one so the weathering should be done with care in sufficient time.

I am glad that you concur with me on the weathering effects.

Do you have one of these locomotives?

Cheers,
Ranjit

Hi,

No, I don't. I've had a couple of factory weathered locos but they were not really nice so I sold them. I think when it comes to weathering the modeller should do it himself or else get it done professionally.

Hi Cem,

Is Marklin not a professional firm? So, why is the weathering so inferior?

Does anyone want to share photos of the weathering effects of the #37845 locomotive?

Cheers,
Ranjit

I do not have any other photos, Ranjit.

But, if you give me some days I may shoot some additional photos.

Does any one know the long term future for the 50 year anniversary BR50? Is Marklin still going to produce it? I'd love a BR50 1960 if that were the case!wink

That's a good question, David. I sincerely hope that you will be able to get the 2010 release. The #37845 Class 50 is a nice locomotive, and the packaging is phenomenal. My only concern was the weathering effects on the locomotive.

Cheers,
Ranjit
