Hi all,
I have a set of passenger cars 4095, 96, 97, 98, 99, and 4147. I HATE the interior, all tan. what do you think about a paint job.

I'm sure the purist out there will say NO but the collector value of these cars will never be more than about $30. if that much.

Thanks for your input,

Bill

Hi Bill,

Nice to meet you on the Musers.org forum...

I'd say paint it, if you think you have the skill to do a good job.
They would still have value to a hobbyist who likes items that are well painted.

Its your train car, your hobby, each MMR hobbyist creates his own "rules" and standards of what works for him.

I'd love to see your results.
Enjoy,
Mark

Bill,

I agree, I think you could paint them. They are not especially rare, and pretty plentiful. Besides, you will enjoy them more this way. I wonder if a little fine felt would make good carpet down the aisles?

As long as you are good at painting I am for the paint job too. If they were rarer I'll be against unless they were already mangled by someone else.

Hi All,
Thanks for the feedback, my thoughts exactly my railroad, my cars...no real collector value. Sense my 1st post Ive painted the interior's of all of the 4095 series cars and the 4147, 4177, 4175, 4176, and 4225 at the same time I added glazing to the windows on the car ends and painted the marker lights. Also I installed curtains to all the windows I will add passengers and LED lighting at a later date. the cars will also get some light weathering to add realism.
Bill
I will post pictures as soon as I figure out how to do that.

Hi Bill,

The painted red seats look great, and the I also really like the curtains. ThumpUp Are the curtains made from tissue paper? Do they hang freely or are they fixed? I am not sure exactly what effect the glazing on the windows on the end has done, or why... is that most for weathering?

Great job and thanks so much for sharing.

Mark ,
Thanks for the reply, the curtains are made from textured paper ( found at Hobby Lobby in the stats) and they are fixed with Faller expert laser glue. The glazing is just for me, I don't like the way it looks with nothing there, and I'm probably the only one to notice! I will take some more pics and post them. I'm working on Disco lights for the dance car, all the curtains will hide the electronics.

Bill,

It may not immediately be noticed when they don't have the curtains, but it's very noticeable when they do. The look great. Did you use model paint (oil based) or acrylic to paint the interior?

Hi all,
Thanks for all the kind words.
Brandon, I only use acrylic paint... Tamiya, Vallejo, and Lifecolor are my favorite (check out Lifecolor Rail Weathering set it's great!) easy clean up,and if you make a mistake it,s easy to redo. Plus when the Wife's not home I can use the airbrush at the kitchen table Laugh
