Hi.

I have made my very first attempt at weathering a car. I have used Noch 61165 dry powder and 61152 spray adhesive, and it was surprisingly easy to work with. Just a bit messy, but I was prepared for that. Here is the result of this first try, and I am quite pleased with the outcome:

You have got a very convincing effect. Excellent job, Mikael.

By the way, I didn't know about those Noch references. Thanks.

Pierre.

Thank you so much everyone. I guess you liked it then biggrin

This Noch weathering set is really easy to work with. I recommend other to try it too. It takes nearly no skills at all. Here is how I did it:

First remove the wheels and couplers.

Spray the train (except the underside) LIGHTLY with Noch 61152 (Spray & Fix Adhesive). This is for the powder to have something to grap hold of.

Wait for the spray to dry up. This takes no more than 1-2 minutes.

Take the needed colours from the Noch 61165 set and pour a little of each onto some paper. In the set is also a short-haired and rather stiff brush.

Apply some powder to the brush, and then paint/rub the colour onto the train.

Excess loose powder can easily be blown off.

When done, apply another thin layer of spray and allow to dry.

And that's all there is to it. I think the total time to do this one was 20 minutes.
Ah yes: You can paint a rusty colour on the wheels too. Use normal wet paint for this. I dont' recommend the spray for the wheels.

First of all, it looks wonderful! There's one little question I have regarding this method though; what will happen over time? A similar approach with hair spray works really well but turns out to change colour over time, from transparent into some kind of yellow. I wonder how long this great result will last. I for one, would definitely only use this method on (cheaper) cars and coaches, not on my precious locomotives.

This spray is meant for model work, so hopefully it won't change colour over time. And no, I don't have the nerve (or heart) to do this to most of my loks either. However, I am soon going to build a new lok (home-painted etc) and that is going to be weathered. So I'd better practise a bit on these cars first wink

VERY nice attempt.
Congratulations!

The wheels/underside were done with acrylic paint and brush?

Cheers from Athens,

Yes, the wheels got acrylic paint, and while the paint was still wet, I sprinkled a bit of the dry powder over it. The rest of the wheelbase is powder only.
And sure, I'll remember to take a picture before I start on the next one. I was planning on doing that this past weekend, but I got involved in a traffic accident, as well as my camera decided to die, so I really wasn't in the mood for it.
