Hi,

I've noticed that nobody posted any weathering works lately.

I've had a Roco DB Cargo car lying around for a long time waiting to be weathered. Finally I got my hands dirty and finished the job.

Here's the final result, detail photos later ...

Excellent job Cem
Would you like to give us some information about the process?
· Like paintbrush and/or airbrush?
· Water based colours or synthetic lacquers?
· Thinning of colours.
I’m sure your comments will be of high interest! And this does not means to reveal your magic to achieve such a beautiful result!

Very good job, Cem !

I also like to weatherize cars from other brands, Roco beeing one of my favorite. At this moment, I simply lack of time to work on my trains.

Ok ... as promised ...

The model is very flashy without weathering.

UserPostedImage

I start with covering the destination plates as these are usually quite clean on prototypes. After that I apply few coats of black-wash.

UserPostedImage

UserPostedImage

The main function of black-wash is to hold the powder I will apply in subsequent steps.

First I apply light colours to creases of the covering. This layer will be almost invisible but it gives good support.

UserPostedImage

Some sand colour powder applied to the ends ...

UserPostedImage

Now it's time for black powder.

UserPostedImage

UserPostedImage

Over the black powder, I apply still more ash to bring up creases.

And after I finish, I seal the whole thing with dull clear coat (spray). Some people don't like this but I find it essential. It also eats up the excess powder giving a better, softer look.

UserPostedImage

Now the bogies and chasis ... fist I applied some Tamiya rust colour; this is for giving the powder a better hold. Then comes ash and some more rust. As usual, seal off with clear coat.

UserPostedImage

After everything in place I do some touch-ups with powdered colour chalk ... like highlighting the inner supports with whitish gray and darkening the ends with dark gray.

Material used: Tamiya weathering set, Noch weathering powders, DupliColor spray.

Alberto hi,

Noch weathering set is really good; it has 8 different colours in 5 gr. tubes. There is also a Noch fixing spray but I don't use it too often.

That real photo certainly highlights to me how much shortened the model car is. It saddens me:(

Your weathering on the other hand, is awesome.

Hi,

Thank you.

I think this car is of a different type (Shimms-tu); soft cover version of rolled steel car Shimms. Length seems prototypical to me.

Here's a picture of a closer prototype Shimmns-ttu:

Gautham, Pietro,

Thanks. I think I'll do more weathering since I've not much to do until I start with the new layout biggrin

Next series will be tank cars ... I have quite a few waiting Smile
