Helio to everyone,

I have not been using my CS3+ for the last 3 or 4 weeks, today when a turned on doesn't wors, I mean no power. What can be the reason and is there a way to fix this problem?

Thanks to all of you in advance, Regards

Carlos

Do you have a multi-meter? I would first check power at the wall and then out the transformer. Then check to make sure the power plug is properly inserted into the CS3. Since the CS3 lacks an on/off switch how exactly did you turn it on?

.Hi Carlos
French user of 2 CS2s (60215) and one CS3 (60226)
The power supplies I have are 2 60041 (230 VAC 60 W) and one 60101 (230 VAC, 100W).
So rhfil suggestion to check if power is present on the plug is good (or thying from a different wall plug is also good)
The low voltage output on the CS2 and CS3 (same connector, same pin-out / pin assignment) is as follows (as viewed from the CS3 vewpoint)
CS Power.png
This would allow you to check if your power supply provides 19.3 VAC.
Make sure you don't short-circuit the 2 pins as it would stop immediately your PSU and force you to unplug before restarting the measurement.

If the PSU does not provide power and if it is not under warranty then:
- Märklin won't repair them
- on TWO occasions it happened to me that a wire inside to connector plugged to the CS2 / CS3 was cut and all I had to do was to open the connector (rather difficult) and resolder the wire.

Here are the connector parts when opened
CS PowerConnector.png (1,152kb) downloaded 33 time(s).
Cheers
Jean

Oh, when he said "no power" I assumed it was at the CS3 but he might have been talking about on the layout. Lol. As usual we need more information. He is in the U.S. so the wall socket would be 110/120. Anyone dealing with electricity should have a multi-meter and learn how to use it. They are inexpensive and can be used to identify and solve a lot of problems.

Hi Jean I used a multi-meter and according to the multimeter there is no problem I also plugged in another outlet and the problem still the same. I believe I'll need a new CS3+

Thank you for your help

Regards,
Carlos

I used the multimeter and according to this device the electricity is ok. I always turned on with the Central Station STOP button

Thank you for your help.

So you do nor actually remove power from the CS3. Do you do a "Shut Down"? Did you unplug the power cord from the CS3 and check the power at the end of the cord?
Any power surge from a lightning strike or generator glitch could fry it. I would unplug the transformer from the outlet, wait at least 10 minutes and plug it back in. I am not sure if the CS3 or the transformer have circuit breakers built in but that might reset them. It might also be that the stop button or bar is messed up. Press down on it, hold it down for a few seconds and then slowly release it. I have a power strip that my power suppliers plug into. After I do a "Shut Down" I turn off the power to everything.

When you don´t use CS3 you must follow Märklins recommendation by switch off the CS3 by click on the shut off in the system settings.
To push on the emergency button are not recommended.

I also have mine on a surge protector and power strip.

Actually the Marklin recommendation is to do a system shutdown which also puts the CS3 in a "Stop mode. My understanding of pressing the "Stop" bar only turns off power from going out of the CS3. It does not stop power from going into the CS3. From the occasional times that I have accidentally left my CS3 in that status overnight I can state that it immediately came back on the next day so was only in a sleep mode the entire time.

Yes finally I believe that it may be very possible that the reason could be that I had a power surge the morning before I decided to turn on the CS3. I will end up buying a new CS3+😡

I would contact Rick Sinclair at rick@marklinrepairs.com and describe the problem and the probable power surge and ask if the CS3 is repairable. He is great. I would like to think that the CS3 has a surge protection device which could be reset or at least replaced and at the very worst the power chip could be replaced for less than the cost of a new CS3+ but don't know.
Also, unless you plan on using a CS3 as a slave or already have the cheaper S88 which uses the CS3+ as a power supply you don't really need to buy a CS3+ thus saving a bit of money. I have a CS3+ but bought it before I really had learned the advantages of it.

Yes, finally I decided to send the power surge and the CS 3 to Ajckids located in Texas for service repair. Will see what happens.

Carlos

Let us know what the result is. I am curious whether Marklin built in some surge protection in the CS3's. And if it worked.

The US digital club sent out a newsletter today and said that a small CS 3 update was sent by Marklin but they haven't tested it. It contains a power supply update for the 60014 to allow the CS 3 to operate at a lower voltage and safely shutdown and restart. Also a small MS 2 update. More will be discussed in the next webinar.
