Hello
I have questions in relation to the Central Station
(1)If you wanted to run a D/C Fleischmann track in my layout can the Central Station run that to like the ESU ECOS.
(2)For a layout that will be about 8ft by 9ft is there need for a Central Station as i would prob have a max of 10 points but would be handy to have them under digital control as i might spend all my time changing points by hand.
(3)The shuttle control feature sounds interesting to me so a loco or Railcar can go from point A to point B stop at a certain spot at point B and how is this spot set and return to point A again or can it go on to Point C and stop and then back to point B again etc.
(4)Starter Sets appear tobe the cheapest way to get a Central Station esp when i need track etc for a new layout has the starter set29463 got the latest central station with the Firmware VERSION 2.5 or higher for running the loco 39850 C152
(5)Are updates for the Central Station only really needed on a yearly basis.
Would be grateful for your help

Almost like the ECoS. ECoS supports RailCom, RailCom+, SX, and DCC with up to 29 functions per loco. CS2 supports DCC (up to 16 functions per loco using the UI), no SX, no RailCom.
Assuming the locos you want to run have DCC decoders they will work with the CS2.
Three-rail track or two-rail track - the digital controllers are the same nowadays.

An MS2 would be enough to control those turnouts, but it's more comfortable with a CS2.
You can combine analogue turnout operation with digital train operation - turnouts with a motor, but without a decoder.

You can run the train from A via B, C, D, E, F to G and have it return.
Basically there is a start contact, an end contact, and a middle contact. The middle contact can be used for as many middle stations you need.

Many dealers sell CS2s, track sets, trains &c. from split starter sets. If you only need the CS2 and the tracks, you can get them without buying a complete starter set.
Any CS2 can be updated to the latest software version, so it doesn't really matter which version is pre-installed at the factory.

That depends on your needs. Some folks install every new version, some didn't upgrade for years.

Tom

Hi
Many Thanks
So the Central Station can Bring Power to my future Marklin Ho Layout and i can bring another power cable to the D/C track in the layout to from the CS2.
The Shuttle function and the contacts etc do they come with the CS2 or are they extra can i also Use the Shuttle feature on my D/C digital layout or does that just work on Marklin Digital locos.
So basically what i want to know is will the CS2 bring power to the A/C track and also the D/C Track at the same time and give me the shuttle operation function in both as i have 5 or 6 Fleischmann Railcars with sound so i can be running both the A/C layout and the D/C digital track all at the one time with the CS2

Yes. You will need feedback detectors to make it work.
If you want to stick to Märklin, you can get the 60883 and combine it with 60881 (three-rail only) and 60882 (two-rail and three-rail).
Some folks prefer current detectors like the 60882 even for three-rail operation because using the 60881 can lead to increased contact problems with three-rail operation.

You will need decoders for your turnouts and other accessories (60831) and to control lights &c. (60841).

So there will be some expenses beyond the starter set.
Regards
Tom

Thanks
Im not very teckno minded but it sounds great the shuttle feature.
So basically all your trains could be running themselves and you just sit back n watch and they could stop at a station and pull away again etc
I suppose the only thing to watch is point settings etc and ive noticed even if the point is set against the locos direction it will still go through the point okay its only when its comming back again that of course it will then go off in the other direction to the way the point is set if you know what i mean so if it was a loop the loco was running you could always leave that point set against the loco if it suited another loco or railcar goin in the other direction in a shuttle run.
I suppose the power cable from your CS2 to D/C layout is extra to but dont mind as long as you can bring power to both at the one time and then just to make sure its the right type of plug or pin to fit the track used.
Maybe im goin to far here but with them Marklin Digital Signals if a train approaches them and the light is red do they automatically stop the train just thought by there price that would be the case and is there any inbuilt collision avoidance warning built into the CS2 to warn you etc of a possible smash im sure 2 Locos even going at half there full speed would be well damaged in a smash or again im i goin to far.

The signal can turn track power near the signal off. The train will stop abruptly with lights and sounds off.
You can add braking modules (#72442) to have digital locomotives stop slowly and with lights and sounds on.

The CS2 does not know the exact layout plan nor the positions of the locos.
If you go for full PC control, the software in the PC will know the complete layout and the position of each loco and will prevent them from colliding.
If you go that way, you won't need braking modules - but you will need more feedback modules.

Thanks for your help HO
I hope you work for Marklin you know so much.
Full PC control sounds interesting i suppose you buy a Marklin software package etc.
I see that the big layout in Berlin is all PC Control but im sure both have there plus and minus points.
I just hope all them contacts for shuttle control are easy to wire up etc and to get it working as im no teckno genius and dont want miles of wire or worse again not enough as i want all my control boxes etc in one spot everything nice and easy with good clear English instructions
