I have a 2008 Central Station 2.
I would like to run a software update which has never been done on this unit.

How do I do this?

As I am a novice at this please supply step by step instructions.

Thank you all out there,

Stan K

Hi Stan
You have basically 2 ways
ONE is to connect your CS2 to the Internet (the auto mode is preferable to manual mode as it leaves your router or Internet box assign the IP address to your CS2.

setup - edit - IP.png
Then power-up
Then select SETUP and then UPDATE and Network to start the update
Note: because no updates were made for a long time, be prepared for multiple reboots and updates. Also do this only if you have a good internet connection. Otherwise the USB memory solution is better.

TWO, using your computer and a USB memory stick, go to the Märklin website https://www.maerklin.de/en/service/downloads/cs2-updates/
Agree to the software licence to get the update download.
When finished copy the download to your USB
When finished, plug your USB to your already-started CS2
Then select SETUP and then UPDATE and USB Stick to start the update
setup - edit - Zweitgerat.png

WARNING: be patient because a normal Update can last 30 to 45 minutes and in your case even longer. If the CS2 reboots let it alone until the success is displayed
I hope this helps
Cheers
Jean

If the cs2 is that old then the update is a two stage process and there are two files that need to be downloaded. The reason for this is that they have changed the format of the update file at version 3.something and old machines need to update to that version before the newer update will work.

If you can do the update connected to the internet this will all be done automagically for you, and is the method I would recommend if you use it. As Jean mentioned there will be multiple reboots of the cs2 as it does the update, whichever method you use.

Problem solved!! I purchased a cross over cable from our local electronics outlet.
Eventually took it to a a reputable electronics ouitlet that tested the cable and discovered it was a faulty product..
Bought a quality cable from these folks and the download proceeded faultlessly exactly as John jean and Kiwi Alan said it would.
Take home message: Buy your electronic needs at reputable, professional outlets

Hi
Don't bother to purchase an Internet crossover cable. Why?
Because since years, when dealing with the protocol (TCP/IP) recent Internet interfaces check the connection and swap entry and exit if the need arises making the need for crossover cables useless (but they also work.
So ANY internet cable will do.
Cheers
