Hello, After a short week in Ha Noi, Vietnam ... here are a "few" pix from my train hunting safari. Photos and videos taken with my small Canon IXUS 70 camera (5.8-17.4mm, 7.1 Mega Pixels) so quality is rather low and shaking on videos inevitable. From what I learned there, the central part of the Ha Noi train station was bombed during the war and was reconstructed in the Soviet style. This gives way to an unusual architectural mix of the older French colonial style with the subsequent Soviet style ... quite unnerving. To follow up on the 1/1 prototype, I'll be uploading 5 different posts, hope you dun mind the spam ^^. Plz bear with me for this sequence: _ General Station pix _ Locos _ Cars _ Miscellaneous Pix _ Videos (best part !) Thx, Yum Edited by user 13 June 2011 19:59:33(UTC)

The passenger and freight cars: (I think Jacques will be quite frustrated with the Victoria Express, Vietnam State Railways train ( photo 16) ... he will have to forgo the high end cuisine for standard Nem 360 ... ;) Yumgui attached the following image(s): |

And finally ... here are the videos of trains rolling through the city ... The Ha Noi train station has two doors at either end, one going south to Sai Gon, the other going north to Lao Cai. There is only one track at both north and south doors ... and they both lead through the city to their respective destinations. Quite surprising, plz enjoy : Train 1: Train 2: Train 2 at night: Yum Edited by user 13 June 2011 21:27:44(UTC)

I think it is part of the driving habits there; first one across the road wins. Of course it's possible when scooter confronts scooter .. but when scooter confronts loco .. I believe there is no match. Yum |

Ranjit, ozzman, gachar001, Thanks for the kind words, glad you like them ! I find it very refreshing to be reminded that many many people have quite different train riding experiences than I do; puts things into perspective. To the point that I start wondering what it might be like to create a layout with Vietnam consists ... Märklin has a very long way to go on that ! Here is another video, taken not far from the Station ... which doesn't concern trains directly, but may help to find the answer to the riddle: Why didn't the chicken cross the road ? Chicken 1: Plz lemme know, Yum |
