Hi to all members,

I have an issue with setting up my ESU M4 locos, these will register a MFX.

However if the MFX box is unchecked in track settings they can be set up with a DCC address and all of their many functions will be available, however as soon as I run my MFX Marklin locos I have to revert my track settings to include MFX as well. This results in all the ESU M4 locos re-registering as MFX. Obviously this is a problem as I want to run my ESU locos with all their functions and the Central Station is only allowing for 16 functions.

Does anyone know the reason why when set on MFX the CS will not allow for the full 32 functions?

Suggestions appreciated.

Hi Torrid,

The solution is to disable the Mfx protocol in decoder.

See section 9.5 in the Esu Lokpilot manual:

First register the loco as DCC (as you already did correctly)

In CV 47 write value 1

Then only DCC will be active in the decoder and once you activate Mfx protocol on CS3 it wont be able to register the loco as Mfx.

Then you should be able to access the 32 functions.

The ESU decoders require a firmware update to allow 32 functions with mfx. Currently such an update is not available.
