I've been looking on the Märklin web site today and the central station 3 plus and associated power supplies are 'temporarily unavailable'.

Is this a result of the coronavirus or could a CS4 be in the offing?

The CS3 has been around for 3 years or so, and given the much improved and cheaper electronics it might be time for a successor?

I'd be interested in any wish list people might have for a new controller.

Hi
My cristal ball is as good as yours. Here is what mine says (LOL):
- CS3 is not at the end of its life, it is successful
- It is made in production runs so it may be temporarily unavailable.
- Activity in Germany has been reduced because of Coronavirus

So we will have to wait (4 weeks?)
Cheers
Jean

I was wondering how many years it was before the CS2 was succeeded?

Hi, there have been 8 years between 60213 an 60216.
If your primary objective is to produce cut edge electrónics, 4 years is more than enough to think that an ítem is obsolete, Just remember that the primary objective of the company is to produce trains...

UserPostedImage German trains era I-II and selected III, era depends on the mood, mostly Maerklin but i can be heretic if needed XD, heresy is no longer an issue.. LOL

When we see CS3 in a expensive starterpakket. Then there will be a new CS4 in may be 3 years.

The power supplies 60061 and 60065 have been discontinued as I found out yesterday.

They have been replaced with 60041,60042 and 60045 which are in stock at the factory.

have also noticed that the 60101 is still in grey colour.
but I assume that will release a black 220-240V one to match the colour of the cs3, like they done with the 50/60 VA Power supplies.
And keeping in mind that they just recently released a version 2.0 off their cs3 software, it’s indication that the cs3 will be around for several years to come. But time will show.

Ye Gods, I hope not! Crying I've only just bought mine and I've not used it yet, (No power supply). Waiting for one from Gaugemaster, and they are waiting for a delivery from Germany. My CS3+ is just sitting there as dead as a Dodo, and I'm using my MS2.

An email fram Märklin a week or so ago confirms that the CS3 is currently out of stock but will be back in a few weeks. It will take some time due to Covid-19 but they estimated the end of April. Several dealers do still have the CS3 in stock.

There will be no CS4 for several years.
1) The CS3 is far too young to be scrapped already.
2) Märklin has recently released version 2 of the CS3 firmware and we will see several error corrections and minor enhancements to this over the next few years.
