My Central Station is the older one, which was upgraded a couple of years ago.

I have now lost the display on the panel - the controller powers up, and I have replaced the batteries but the screen is blank.

What should I do?

Bob

I had a problem with the screen on my CS1 not responding to touch input. The problem turned out to be a speck of dirt that had lodged itself under the screen surround and was permanently pressing down on the touch screen, which meant it would not respond to any input. Cleaning the surround fixed the problem.

Do you see the Marklin logo during the startup of your CS1? If not, you may have a defective screen, in which case it will have to go back to Marklin for repair.

Märklin no longer repair CS1s.

Bob,
When you connect your CS1 to a PC, you can get a screenshot in your web browser.
If it's a screen problem only, then you should see the normal "screen" in your browser.

If your CS was never connected to a PC, the test could be impossible because the LAN settings of the CS may need to be changed (which is rather difficult with a defective screen).

Märklin may offer you a new CS2 for a special price if you contact them as they no longer repair CS1s.

ESU would repair it for you if it had the CS1 reloaded update. So if everything's correct in the web browser, you could order and install the ESU update to qualify for an ESU repair.
It's about Euro 150 for the update and about Euro 99.50 for the repair (repair price taken from the current CS1 reloaded manual) - plus postages.
Regards
Tom

Rather than pay ESU for a repair I would take up any offer from Marklin and get the CS2 with its superior screen.
As David says perhaps you have something caught between the screen and the outer case.
Not too sure if Marklin wil make you an offer if ESU have uploaded their stuff to your CS1.

Thanks everyone,

I will get to my dealer as the first step and see what we can do about a replacement - it seems that is the way I am headed.

I just had the same issue. My CS1 stopped responding to the touchscreen. I found the solution here on the forum. I cleaned boarder of the screen with a small dental tool and viola everything works again. I love this forum. Thank you all.

Why not consider upgrading to a CS3, if considering a CS2?

I would go for a CS3. The CS1 I had was terrible and ditched by Marklin fairly quickly. CS2 is also way better. Good however you are back running trains again.

Be careful and look at the date when responding. Sometimes what one is responding to could be more than ten years old. :-)

Indeed so. The original poster has not completed the thread with a result. My comments are for the new poster regarding up grading. When asking for advice I feel we should receive some form of conclusion.
