Looking at buying starter set 29539 shortly and i would like know about whether i can use the tfafo that comes with the set
or will i have to buy one that's suitable for use in Australia.Any help would greatful.

Looking at the specs of the set on http://www.eurorailhobbi...mp;sc=HO&stock=29539 I'd say that the transformer should be fine as it specifies a 230v / 36va transformer. Best to confirm it with your seller first if you are unsure! We use 230v transformers in NZ and we share the same power system with everyone across the Tasman. Kind regards, Daniell

The only thing you will need to do is fit an Australian/NZ type 3 pin power plug to the transformer, as the transformer with come with a European 2 pin plug.

Or that's what they did with me! - First, DigitalNZ points out a European 230 V specified transformer works fine also with AUS/NZ 240 V.
- Second, if a dealer would give you an AUS/NZ transformer for free then that would be the way to go (even if I would doubt it).
- Third, the travel adaptor I showed doesn't convert voltage - it's just to connect a Europlug to an AUS/NZ wall outlet.
If going for the adaptor solution it all boils down to the quality of the adaptor in order avoid bad contact. Assuming that that the pins are of the right quality AND the outlet part has got proper spring function to press against the round pins of a Europlug, then there is no reason to fear either for the safety risks or for losing power to the tracks.

There's no transformer in the set, it comes with a switching-mode power supply of the "wall wart" type. It must work with input voltages up to 253 V.
Fitting a new plug won't be easy coz it's a wall wart. I'd try a travel adapter. |

You need a euro to aussie mains plug adapter to be able to use the power pack supplied with that starter set. It's a moulded plug, you can't change it. It's what I did with a similar power pack I got. The adapter works well.

Finally recieved my starter set 29539 from Germany today.After having to sell my last set and track it's good to be able to get back into it after a few years. Looking forward to adding to the set and starting a layout.This set was a bargain at 151 euros.Only minor problem was a badly bent front cupler on the loco.
