Hi Everyone,

I've done a forum search and looked in the manual for the loco and can't find anything. I have the loco that came with starter set 29013 (I think this is the 36740 loco...). I'm trying to figure out if I can add a smoke generator to this loco and which generator would be appropriate.

Here are the links to the starter set and what I think the loco from this started set is:

https://www.maerklin.de/...s/details/article/29013/

https://www.maerklin.de/...ts/details/article/36740

Thanks for any help!

Hello:

Looking at the exploded view diagram, I see no placement for a smoke unit. The component circuit board for the front lights is directly underneath the smoke stack.

Hi
Check the instructions of the start set, if it doesn't tell you anything about adding a smoke generator, you can't add it.
On the other hand, the locomotive body is made of plastic, and adding a smoke generator could be complicated if you could.

The loco is from the 'Start Up' range and no merntion is made of facilities to add a smoke generator. Now that doesn't mean it cannot be done, it would require some surgery to the smoke stack. being a plastic body isn't necessarily a problem as Seuthe do make a smoke generator for putting in plastic bodies. However at the end of all this, it is not a simple process for this loco. This is one of the problems with the entry level items, some options are not available.

I personally find smoke on small Ho loks a bit of an anti-climax- a dribble of smoke for a relatively short space of time. Ok win the lottery and go for a gauge 1 steamer with synchronised sound to smoke chuff, whistle sound & smoke and smoke from the axles but that is a dream !!!!!! I would recommend looking at a new lok 36244 one of the long standing best sellers of the Marklin range very reasonably priced (search for good offers) with steam and sound and lights and Marklin warranty.

Thanks for all of the great replies everyone!

@Rwill, funny you should mention the 36244, I recently got one of these and it is awesome.

I was just hoping to spruce up this basic loco a bit but it doesn't look like it is going to be that easy...

Cheers!
