I have successfully added 6 S88s on my layout. The 7th and final S88 will not work. I can not get my reed switch to signal the CS3.
I have the correct " length" on my CS3 for the GPF-3
I have switched RJ45 cables to see if there was a bad cable. I bought an extra S88 thinking the last one was bad but I get the same result.

I have seen glitches in the CS3 before, but this one is making me crazy,
I have seen people try a reboot and change the length back to one etc.

I could really use some ideas to fix this issue. I only have 15 more reed switches to connect.

Thank you in advance.

Hi Eurotrain (funny kinda first name I think)
My guess your problem is you have to specify the length of each bus (1, 2 and 3) on your CS3 or the Bus 1 on CS3+
On my CS3 is shows like this with one S88 on Bus 1 and 7 on Bus 2.
cs3 Link88 Configuration.png
If you have a CS3+ there must be a similar screen with only one bus
Failure to indicate the proper length means the extra modules won't be scanned (will not report information back)
Cheers
Jean

I just ordered my first 60881 S88 for my CS3+ and one contact track. I watched the webinbar and the factory setting is for (5) S88's, so you need to change that setting to 6 or more.
I presume I can use this contact track for one event. Can it make the trains start and stop at the contact track with or without triggering a couple of turnouts, and a signal?????

Hi
Yes, it can. No restriction on the type (switch, signal, relay) and on the number. The action is triggered by a signal FLANK (becoming busy= loco arriving symbol) or free= loco leaving symbol) normally without delay but there may be one.
Cheers

Does one ground wire or two connect to the S88? The diagrams with the Contact track and S88 seem conflictiing to me. One from the ouside of the contact area to the ground port on the S88 for sure, and also one from the insideside of the contact area to the left screw terminal of track 1 port?
Thank's in advance!

The way it works is simple:
- all your Märklin layout has the same 0 (external rails) no matter how many boosters you have
- you must connect this 0 also to the S88 system because it is a floating voltage BUT much preferably only at one point (only one S88 at the upside-down "T"). Why? to avoid having high currents in your S88 system in case of short-circuits.
- each detection section is one of the rails, insulated from the other rail (by cutting the little 2 bridges per C track rail) and insulated from the next section by the little red insulation sock on rail connector.
- the detection section may be as long as you want but usually does not include switches / Double - slips. The wire connecting it to the S88 input should be short (1 meter maximum if possible) and possibly away from high current wires (feeder wires)
- it is your responsibility to make sure that after the detection section, the rails are connected to the 0

Diode Trick
With Märklin S88, some people (also me on some difficult places) add a diode to improve the rail contact (loco stopping in detection sections). Each cathode (side with ring marking) on the detection section side and the anode on the other rail. It is not mandatory but may improve circulation on track with dust.
The easiest way is to install the diode inside the track bed of on C track section per detection section
Cheers
Jean
