Hi all,

Is there a possiblity to install a sound decoder in a Marklin loc that has already a delta/digital decoder built-in.
For example LokSound, but only the sound decoder, I still want to use the Marklin decoders.

Thanks,
Frank

I'm quite sure that the LokSound decoder will work for sound even if it has no motor and lamps connected, so it should be possible to combine with a Märklin decoder if there is enough room for the decoder.

Hi all,
I *think* that Märklin offers a sound module as a spare part<img src=icon_smile_question.gif border=0 align=middle>From all reports however the Loksound decoder is equal or better than the Märklin one.The sound of Loksound is superior to that Mä,IMHO.

I agree, I think it's possible to use the sound part of Loksound only. Of course, this decoder should have the same adress as the Märklin decoder etc. However, I can see no reason to keep the Märklin decoder. If you replace it, you solve the space problem, and you get the programming much easier - to adjust acceleration and the like in both decoders to corresponding values.

I'm not sure if it's straight forward to install a spare part sound card - Märklin does it like that, a sound card, connected to a decoder. Maybe a special version of the decoder is needed to get it work. Anyway, Kevin is right; Loksound always has much better sound. The only exception I've heard is Märklin diesel sound, which is almost as good as Märklins...

Regards,
Lars

IMHO a Märklin 6090x decoder (the motor control part) performs better than the LokPilot, so I wouldn't throw these Märklin decoders out if I didn't have to. But I have only tested the LokPilot (LokSound but without sound) in one loco so I'm no expert.

With Märklin Delta or the older 6080 decoders it is another thing. These Märklin decoders do not perform so well, but they work with AC motors. To use the decoder part of LokSound you then have to convert the motor to DC first (can be done with a HAMO magnet).

I agree.Since these loks run so well,I will not 'throw' them away!<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

However,if someday I need to replace a decoder, and can fit a speaker in it,then I'll go for the LokSound.I did this in a BR86 (Delta) as perz said are horrible runners.

Lars I have not heard a LokSound diesel, but my Märklin V200 (39821) sounds fantastic!
Comparing the BR86 with the Mä dampfloks I have with sound(BR01.01&BR10),the LokSound is better,...

Bogobit has some information on Maerklin sound modules.
http://www.bogobit.com/sound.html

Seems to me that trying to use Maerklin spare part modules may not be easy.

There are other offers:

http://www.ittsound.com/trainprod.htm
I think that the selection of sounds is somewhat limited, but affordable. Can be hooked up to the decoder output.

http://www.xtronics.com/kits/EM-105.htm
Very inexpensive but what does it do?

The Loksound approach seems the most straight forward, but at a cost.
The total upgrade (Loksound + possible DC conversion) seems to cost almost as much as a new loco with sound. For conversion info see conversion session by "Webmaster".
Some day I will try to add sound, though.

As I understand, the CT Tran GE70 is a separate digital sound decoder that has its own address in DCC. As I also understand it follows the DCC signal itself and only works with DCC. This leads me to the conclusion that you cannot use it with a Märklin 6021 control unit. However, as I understand, with the IntelliBox you should be able to make a 2-loco "consist" with one Märklin loco and a DCC "loco" (the sound decoder) and get it to work that way.

I might be wrong, but with the minimal info about it on the site, maybe things clear up when a manual is available.
