I don't know if I need the 69040, 69760, which has an 80 address decoder, or another. Also which mfx sound decoder has the correct turbo diesel sound on it.
Thank's in advance.

The real H0 BR 218 models all have high-efficiency propulsion or C-Sine motors, so no motor upgrade necessary.

What is the ref. number of your loco?
Some BR 216 models were sold with "218" labels. Here we find LFCM and DCM, so the motor conversion kit depends on the actual model.

Tom

Thank you HO! It is an item no. 3374 216 with a Delta decoder, but I want the turbo-diesel sound on it of a 218 if I'm going to bother. I know it doesn't have the correct exhaust stacks, and I don't care. I just love the turbo sound. My br 212 has no turbo sound. I wonder if the 60941 motor upgrade set will fit. There are some still available. It depends on the motorshield, and commutator gear size. I can do this for hlaf the cost of a new br 218. My dealer can load the 216 diesel sound on the new 21 pin mfx decoder for 5 dollars.

The 3374 is listed as DCM for both analogue and Delta versions. So the 60941 motor set should fit.

I've said it before a million times on the forum.......ok, maybe a thousand times....

Helmutt Kern's site is the best place to determine motor types for locos up to about 2004. After that most if not all Marklin locos were digital.

Yes Bigdadddy, and Guy at AJCKids also. Had I seen it yesterday before asking, the numbers of the compatible parts he lists if your Loco has them, the kit should work.
It's an easy enough conversion, aside from the red pick-up shoe wire being spliced with a black wire with heat shrink tube to the Delta decoder, from the factory, as I bought this brand new, and no violet wire. The lights are the plug in socket type insulated from the frame.
I'm still contemplating the upgrade though. It doesn't have marker lights. That would entail changing the sockets or using Led's. Still not difficult. The other thing is the missing elbow exhaust stacks. They do look nice on a br 218.
