I did read in the manual of the Pikos sound decoder 5.1 with the mfx protocol that you must use Pikos smart programmer or Pikos smart control WLAN if you want to upgrade Pikos sound decoder.
This is a same way when you shall upgrade Märklins sound decoder by use CS3.
So my question to you are:
Do you really want to buy Pikos digital locomotives for the Märklin tracks?

There should be a common standard for handling decoders...

All of different applications should be able to be developed to manage their own hardware through another's device.

How difficult will it be if you now want to attract younger technically interested in this hobbyists Confused

I use three different ones ESU/Zimo/Märklin and refuse to purchase another one hardware, so better exchange Piko's decoder if any sound project is available.

The developer has come a long way with ZCS - ZIMO CV Setting Tool which can be connected to CS3 to read and change CV and that's the way ThumpUp

Even Märklin cannot support its own hardware with their application mDT3 which can't read the older mLD/mSD decoders connected with their USB stick Mad

I noticed that the very first line of the ZCS tool is "use this software at your own risk".

I agree with you!
I notice too that it´s only possible by use Windows PC to upgrade sound decoder.
It is sad how small possible there are to upgrade sound files to the digital locomotives to improve sounds.
I did planned to buy a Piko sound loco but changed my mind.

i have bought an interesting number of Piko sound locos in the past years, with and without mfx, they work very well and so far i have not needed to upgrade the decoder firmware at all........
Regards
PS: ZCS software is not an official zimo product, hemce the warning, again, never had a problem using it

Yes, why not?
I cannot install updates myself, but most of my locos have never been updated anyway.

Locos do not connect to the Internet and it is safe to operate locos without monthly security updates.

So it is safe by not updates digital system too?
Customer did complain about Pikos sound decoder and Piko did decides to change out, but still have problems.
I know myself that there are difference quality about sound decoder but who is the best?
Zimo and ESU do have nice sound decoder with nice sound files.
