Little dramatic heading.. probably this will provide a good laugh or smile for many of You…. And perhaps teach some to think twice…
I have a permanent layout with 3 levels. Run by a cs3, turnouts with decoders and a lot of S88 with feed back contact. Automation built up to run 5 trains.. and I was happy with it. Now i wanted to install some homemade(3d printed) signals for decoration only. Trains ar fully controlled by events. I installed a M83 to control signal colors(red/green and orange) AND in installation process happen to tell cs3 to define new adresses… and it did for the whole thing. Trying to restore from old saved settings makes it a little bit better, but adresses for turnouts are not working… for most. I cannot find my handwritten list with adresses and turnouts are screwed down and access for som difficult. Assume I have used all 3 types of decoders but think I defined adresses with dip switches. When you are finished laughing… any idea how to rectify? My best proposal is to define a long list of turnouts in cs3 (in available adresses) an see what triggers the various turnouts.

Only soothing… I made the thing and I can do it again😂

Current turnout decoders are mfx. If you have set yours with dip switches how would the CS3 change the address. If the signals you made are just for decoration how can the CS3 control them. If you delete a turnout and then instal it again will the Cs3 not pick up the address. If a turnout is part of a route would that not give the address.
Take care I like Marklin and will defend the worlds greatest model rail manufacturer.

Good qustions but no answers. I intended to let the cs3 via event set the m83s outputs one for each LEDs as you would with illumination in a building or street lights. And yes I might have all three types of turnout decoders but as said I think adresses where set with dip switches. Meaning adress in decoder is locked…. But then the adress used in CS3 for the various turnout are changed. 4 is still working the orhers not

Hello Tie🙂 I am quite baffled myself by your problem. Do your M83 decoders control any turnouts or do they all have individual decoders in them? Is the signal M83 powered by track current or external supply? What is it's address? Can it possibly be confusing the turnouts or the CS3?
I know events are complex. I don't have but a few active, and only 7 turnouts. I have had one digita mfxl 7600 series signal change with no action or selection upon a loco function button touch. I had to change the loco's address to stop it. No explanation.

The turnouts are all equipped with local decoders(inside the turnouts) in addition to that i have some s88 for feed back from contact tracks. The mentioned M83 was first of many to be installed to control LEDs in my signals. Home made with 3d printer. I assume I can configure the M83(black type) to set current on or off based on signals from cs3.
The whole mess startet when I tried to register one of the M83s to the cs3 and pressed the button to obtain new mfx adresses for the whole system.

Do you have a mobile station? If you do you can then do one switch at a time and have someone go around the layout to identify which switch is being activated. In the future I recommend, as I have done many times in here, that you save the layout in the CS3 and in a thumb drive. You should do it before any changes to the layout so you can get back to the status before the change if it goes to hell.

I do have a mobile station, not much used, but assume this will be same as set up a turnout in cs3, change adress and activate it to se where and if a turnout reacts. Then do the same several times and increasing adress by one each time. The funny thing is I did a back up ( have several stored by date) and it seened to fix the most. But not the turnouts.

No, with the MS2 you just flip through the solenoid address range and can activate each address as you go. This can save a lot of time if you try the trial-and-error approach.
Note that tests may have to be made for both DCC and MM protocols unless your DIP settings allow one protocol only.

Tom

Thanks
I have only tried the mobile station once connected via cs3. Never used it. This may have worked. Howeer, I found another solution: looking in cs3 I found that the turnouts( allocated name P1, P2(pens norwegian for turnout) had the old adress set and I had used adress 1 for P1 etc. possibly my naming made the discover new mfx made cs3 allocate new names (w1 etc for german weiche)
I dis the same discover new mfx and this time ticked existing adress. Now I got a list of w1, w2 etc. thei all worked so I clicked through and found the turnout by sound/sight. Then wrote down the corresponding adresses. Finally I deleted all the new W1, w2….. turnouts and inserted the relevant adresses in my «old» P1,P2 turnouts. Discover new mfx does not delete the old ones.
Thanks for help.
Regards
Thor Inge

PS I might get the same problem with The S88 feedback but assume I can run a loco over them and check which item in list turns yellow

There are at least two types of switch decoders. The older ones could only set the address manually. The newer mfx ones can set the address electronically. I still set the address of the mfx ones manually. It sounds like you have both and the computer reset the mfx ones, a problem I thought might happen.

Assume you are right. 5 of my 18 decoders worked as normal. I have user manuals for all three… 74460 74461 and 74462.
