Guys, can anyone confirm whether the 60760 conversion kit will work for the SEH800?

No, it will not work. SEH800 has a LFCM = Large Flat Collector Motor, whereas 60760 is intended for a DCM = Drum Collector Motor only.

You will need a kit such as 60904 - others may comment whether this kit can be installed without too much trouble.

I suggest you make contact with forum member Nigel Packer as he converted mine for me and it runs very well.

This is what I got back from Nigel:

John,

Märklin specifically developed the 60906 for converting these very early locos.

The mechanical tolerances for motors made in the 40s and 50s were so loose that it’s very difficult to produce a motor upgrade that will fit reliably in these old chassis designs. An electronic conversion seems to be the best solution overall. Anyway, that’s what Märklin now produce.

The other motor upgrade kits will work in locos built in the 70s and 80s, but not well in something like an SEH.

The 60906 is what I used in Glenn’s SEH800 and that was a successful conversion!

Best wishes,

Nigel

That's the way it has to be done, although 60906 is also a good thing. It keeps the old motor with some new features like smooth acceleration or stopping and more functions.
Best regards

Conversion possibilities

1. Same motor 60906 decoder
2. ESU 51960 magnet ESU LokPilot or LokSound decoder
3. Märklin 60944 motor and mLD3 or mSD3 decoder
