Retrofit legacy Marklin M series with a digital controller.

Joined: 27/07/2024(UTC) Posts: 2		So, i have a marklin rail circuit, i's the older analog M series. I can connect various devices and switches (with cables) to a control plate, the 7072. I was wondering if it was possible to have a digital control plate that can replace the 7072, preferably something cheap that i can connect to a rasperry pi or a generic (linux) pc. My goal is to be able to control all the stuff in the network that connects to the 7072, controlling the trains is not necessary. I am willing to do diy or have to do a little code, any help would be appreciated ! if more info is needed id be glad to provide

Joined: 10/07/2002(UTC) Posts: 3,298 Location: Patagonia		Dont know if it can work with a raspberry pi, but an old and cheap k83 can control with no problems your turnouts by means of any Marklin Motorola speaking central unit. Regards
		German trains era I-II and selected III, era depends on the mood, mostly Maerklin but i can be heretic if needed XD, heresy is no longer an issue.. LOL

Joined: 27/07/2024(UTC) Posts: 2		(sorry if my question is dumb, im new to the hobby) I see the k83 for reasonable prices near where i live, however, i am unable to find software that can speak to it, is there a list or a discussion somewhere i can look at to find out how to control it?

Joined: 09/08/2008(UTC) Posts: 1,919 Location: Auckland,		The K83 decoder was designed for use with the 6020 and 6021 control units respectively. To interface with a computer or similar device a 6050/6051 interface was required. doing all this today would not be cheap and easy. It seems to me you should look more in the direction of an Arduino that you can set up to replicate the electrical pulses of your 7072, but with input from the device of your choice.
