Is a sound decoder available for the BR V32 Diesel Compressed Air Loco? I thought ESU made one but I've been unable to locate any.

This is one of the few engines I have that I haven't converted to sound.

Thanks,
Chuck

No, because there is no loco that can be recorded. There was only ever one built as an experimental or development loco.

I wonder how much sound they made, because the exhaust gasses were used to superheat the compressed gas that was going to the driving cylinders, which suggests that there would have been quite a bit of muffling of the sound by the heat exchanger.

Thanks Alan!

I was aware that there is not one around to make a direct recording from. Like I originally stated I thought I remembered seeing a sound decoder listed as available for this loco. I thought that it could have been digitally created to simulate what escaping air as opposed to steam may have sounded like.

Hello Chuck,

I do not know this loco and was a bit curious. I found in a German Wicki the digital equipment of the various locos. Do not know what your loco got as fleet number.

Found nice pictures for a new one.

Here is the overview of the Wicki record. All locos were already digital.

Why not a new mSD/3 decoder for the nice loco for controlling and sound?

regards

Wolfgang

I remember reading about a DIY sound project for that loco. And I think an ESU decoder was used for that project. I do not remember where I saw it and whether it is available for download.

It makes sense to check first which ready-made sound projects are available before deciding about the sound decoder.
Why use an MSD/3 if you can use a better decoder?
With ESU V4 decoders for diesel locos I can hear more different load situations than I hear with Märklin decoders.
Regards
Tom

Hello Chuck,

...

There is also this page which has photos of it without the bodywork.

There is also a (short) Wikipedia page in German.

And if you want to waste some time looking at unusual locos, this page is worth a look. For soem locos that Marklin could produce have a look at the Hockdruch link, one of them was made by Trix apparently, so it wouldn't be too hard for Marklin to make at least one of them.

But with the new mSD3 decoders you can create your own sound project and transfer it with a mDT3 onto your loco decoder.

Actually you can go outside with a microphone and tape recording the original noise or whatever you want. This you can recompile onto your mSD3 decoder. I guess better and more natural is impossible. E.g. it gave everybody the chance making a loco running with a quack, quack, quack or a croak, croak, croak or what else. Jim Knopf is already available.

You are free for your sounds in mfx or DCC.
