Hi Russel
Apparently this is a LokSound V3.0 M4
Early ESU decoders (prior to V4) cannot use 4 Ohms speaker. ESU says there is a risk of destruction
So IMO you need to use an 8 Ohm speaker but the ESU Website doesn't provide any advice for prior-V3.5 decoders
(see: http://www.esu.eu/en/products/accessories/loudspeakers/)
To play it safe you may start wiring a 8 Ohm speaker but with a 10 Ohm resistor in series

Cheers
Jean

The manual indicates 100 ohms.
Some Märklin locos used speakers with only 50 ohms - and quite often the speaker got damages.
Better do not go below 50 ohms.

Speakers with 8 ohms will most likely damage your decoder, even with 10 ohms in series. In the best case the speaker blows up before the decoder gets damaged...

The ESU speakers marked LokSound V3.5 should be fine for that decoder.

Tom

That is correct, a 100ohm speaker is required for a LS3/3.5

That's not safe. You risk overloading the sound decoder. The manual shows 100 ohms for the speaker.
