Hi

I have Brawa 40137 which uses an ESU 3.5 decoder. I would like to upgrade to a 4.0 decoder and would like some advice on this - is it relatively easy to do and which version of the decoder should I get? Or should I change to a marklin decoder if this is feasible?

Many thanks

Cameron

Why change to Märklin decoder, when ESU is better!?
If you want version 4,i suggest change sound decoder.
ESU does have ready sound decoder for yours type of locomotiv 40137.
If you have possible to adjust sounds and function, you can use ESU lokprogrammer.

Hi!

You will need a new speaker anyway. The Märklin mSD Spezial should fit, the ESU V4 should also fit. Both need a speaker with low impedance (4 through 16 Ohms) while the Loksound 3.5 needs speakers with 50 through 100 Ohms.
No risk for the new decoder, but sound volume will probably be very low if you don't replace the speaker.

Märklin do not offer a sound project for this 1'Do'1 loco (eight cylinders). Do not expect the chuff-chuff sound from normal steamers.
I'll stick to the V 3.5 decoder.
Regards
Tom

Tom has right about speaker.
You need to change speaker too,if you want decoder V.4.
I suggest you keep version 3.5 and next time you buy a new locomotiv from Brawa,i suggest the news from 2014 which have now version 4 in all models.

Thanks Anders and Tom for the advice. Will keep the 3.5 but was wondering if I able to add a bigger speaker to the loco?

Cameron, this will depend on the room available, have a look at the ESU website: http://www.esu.eu/en/pro...ccessories/loudspeakers/

If you have a lokprogrammer you can download an ESU sound decoder V4 for your loco under item nummer 17434, you'll find this under the special OEM sounds, filter the selection by selecting steam and Germany and you will find the loco in question.
