My loco had one of its traction tires removed due to possible debris on the line, i managed to put back again without unscreweing anything...Is this a common occurence?? I noticed that the sound was different....

It can be a fairly common occurrence. I've had several locos drop a tyre lately. They can come of if they get worn down a bit. I just replace them with a new one.

The higher speed, the more wear of traction tire!
So you MUST change out the old one,to replacement a new one!

Worn tyres, greasy track or oil spilled track, too much load behind loco.

This has happened to me when the loco wheels slip a lot. The friction causes excessive heat which makes the tyres expand and come off the wheel.

Solution - New tyres and clean track.

I have a hobby loco that occationally drops one of it's traction tyres. The sound changes when the tyre is missing.
I use a paper clip to put it back.
None of my other locos have dropped a tyre so far.

Some of my electric locos (BR 101, BR 151, BR 182) use tyres quite easy when the wheels slip a few seconds (e. g. if one loco is pushing against another loco (which only occurs if I didn't pay attention)).

A friend told my to try the smaller tyres for these locos.
Since I didn't have this problem for many months now (sometimes I do pay attention), I haven't tried it yet.

Since there are only four sizes of traction tyres, they fit tighter on some locos and looser on others.

Tom

Märklin 7151 (I guess that these ones should be extra-large).
