I love the 39100 Senator set, however when I got and installed the additional cars, I found that it had some problems pulling the train up some of my inclines, particularly if they were curved. I took the motor unit off and examined it. I found that it has four driven wheels but only two had traction tire. Upon closer examination, I discovered that the other two driven wheels had the grooves cut in them for tires, but no tires installed. I added the two tires and it will now pull up any grade without any hesitation. Has anyone else noticed this?

Are you sure the traction tyres from the 2 'empty' wheels are not lying somewhere on the layout? It happens every now and then that traction tires run off or break.
<s>You could also check in the catalogue or exploded view (if it's there on M* site) how many traction tires your Senator should have.</s>
<<edit: there are no indications about the number of 'haftreifen' in either catalogue or exploded view>>
If there are grooves, I'm sure those wheels should have traction tires (grooved wheels without traction tires run very bad).

Henk:

That was my first thought. However in disassembling the front assembly, I could see no way for the tires to come off without breaking. Also, it would be unlikely that two from the same axle would have come off. I was just wondering if they were left off mine or it eas intentional, and if anyone else who as this model has noticed (or would look).

I have the 39100 Senator set and I have not operated it yet (very strange indeed!).
I will have a look and report to you about the number of traction tires installed.

The manual for the 39100 model says traction tyres # 7154.

My set has 4 x traction tyres installed from factory as I have only done a test run Smile

Thanks, Pål. I guess it was just an oversight. Not a big problem. I installed two 7154's on it and it is fine. I was just curious as to whether mine was just missed or it was a production decision.

Hi Ron,

As promised yesterday I have just had a look at my 39100 Senator set and now I can confirm that a total of 4 traction tires are installed.

Have a very good run with this beautiful model after the replacement of the 2 missing traction tires.
