I"ve got 2 digital locos, the Tristan with the King Ludwig set and the #33041. The Tristan doesn't have any traction tires on it, but they are shown in the booklet on how to install. The little 33041 has a set on the rear 2 wheels but not on any others. Are they supposed to have them, and if so are they supposed to be on all the wheels or just certain ones? If so, where do you find a wrench that will fit the bolts? Thanks.

Thanks. I"ve been on it in the past, but it looks like I had to register again with the new website.

Hi wsscott.

Even if I don't have the 33041, I wouldn't think that more than one axle would be equiped with traction tyres in order to get proper contact with the track for current conduction purposes. The 3000, which is a similar size model has only got traction tyres on one axle.

Anyhow, have you taken a look at the Märklin tool kit 70900?

I'm pretty sure the hex sockets of that tool kit would fit most, if not all, Märklin models that need them.

Hello WSSCOTT
I have the King Ludwig train set with the "TRISTAN" loco and the "MÜRNAU" Loco (Märklin item 3797). Same loco, different tender, different electronics (TRISTAN is 36XX unregulated, MURNAU is 3797-regulated).
They both have traction tyres on both driving axles on both sides (at least on the 3 rails versions)
Here is a picture of the MURNAU:

Both need #7153 traction tyres.
Change is made by:
- poping out the cran pins on both side and both axle
- removing the underneath of the loco to remove the axles
- change the tyres
- when refitting the 2 axles make sure they are "in sync" so that the crank & rod operation is fine.
Here are pages 16 and 17 about changing tyres on this loco:

Sorry about images not properly scanned & vertical.

Jean- I finally am getting around to the tires. I got the tool kit for Christmas. I've taken off the bottom plate, but can't figure out how to take out the crank pins. Can you help. I also notice that the wheels and the cranks don't line up as shown in the photos. Can you show me or describe the proper alignment? Thanks.

Hi Wsscott
- Removing the crank pins is easy: just pull them gently with a pair of tweezers, parallel to the axle and away from the wheel.
- Aligning wheel is also easy: while no crank pins are in place, insert the wheel pairs so that their wheight are oriented toward bottom (on one side) Look at the picture below.
Wheel Alignment
Attention: do not try to rotate the wheels when they are sitting "home" because of worm gear. When a wheel pair is not aligned, just pull it out and rotate it slightly before reinsertion.
Cheers
Jean

Thanks-I don't think I can get my tweezers on the pin to pull it. I gave it a try but this pin is really small. I'll keep working on it. Thanks.

Hi Wsscott
In case the cranks are sticky, you may force them out (gently) with either a little screwdriver or an Xacto blade inserted between the crank arm and the lok's side frame.
Cheers
Jean
