Good Evening everyone,

I have autism and struggling to understand something.

I have a twin track layout.

I'm a UK guy running continental trains so what direction should my trains run clockwise or anticlockwise?

I heard continental trains run anticlockwise but is that the inner or outer loop?

Thank you for any advice

If you mean 2 rail, the current polarity+,- changes when you reverse the transformer direction switch,or turn the train around facing the other way. So analog Horny, etc.

Hi Deano

To try and answer your question. I have recently viewed your YouTube video of 17 April discussing the cost of wood.

Presumably you are sitting next to the front of the layout. If you put down two tracks parallel to the edge of the baseboard, on the track nearest the edge of the baseboard the trains should run from left to right. The trains on the inner track should run right to left.

That’s the general rule of course in stations or passing loops or single track branch lines you may have some bidirectional lines but your main running lines should follow the above.

Hope this helps
Adrian

Hi Dean
I cannot say for whole Europe but:
- Germany, Poland, Spain, the Netherlands, trains run on the right track (opposite to UK)
- France (except Alsace and Mosele), Italy, Switzerland, Sweden trains run on the left track (like in the UK)

In France, quite a number of tracks are "banalisées": dual direction for both tracks. This allows a fast train to "take over" (pass) a slow train (Freight, etc)
On your layout, what is important is for you to have fun

Here is my layout with continental right hand drive as I have predominently German locos and wagons

Greetings from France
Jean

Aaaaaarrrrrrrgggghhhh Scared

No wonder there are so many train crashes in Europe. Why don't you all sit down a just pick a side to drive upon?

Well I got a shock having my Swiss locos running in the same direction as German or Austrian trains until I've noticed they're running the opposite way but there are exceptions when trains switch tracks

My layout has mostly a French design,
so my trains are mostly running at left and the signals are also placed on the left side.

Some parts are "single line" so no matters, I can also move the turnouts for some run on the right side.

And I still enjoy running my german trains this way,
just imagining I am close to the border just before the infrastucture allowing trains to change sides...

Belgium runs on the left as well although I think a lot of their lines can be bi-directional.
Many years ago I got a train from Oostende to Koln and I think the train swapped over somewhere around Aachen near the border.

As Jean says, the main thing is to have fun.
Marklin HO using M track. Now reverted to analogue as I find it has more character - and I understand it!

I have never thought about this and run my locos any way I like to see them go. Although I have thought about the signals being in the right or wrong side of the track. Anyway as Jean says its just fun and it is not essential that everything should be correct. At present I have Preisers waiting on a platform wondering if their train will be going in the direction they want to go.
Take care I like Marklin and will defend the worlds greatest model rail manufacturer.

Its all wishful thinking, you wonder whether the train will appear at all or whether the carriages have made it past the turnout, on my layout direction is one way and this is the right way., although we have signals on both end of the station platforms, just in case but it should be save as they're always on red and never change to green, I've had comments Swiss trains should have a Swiss overhead system, my trains are to long., to cut the long story short, I'm enjoying it
