For 00/HO scale:

1935-1938 : hand reverse switch/lever (usually in back of loco)
1938-1947 : hand reverse knob/rod (usually in back of lock which actually "pushed" the reverse unit to change directions)
1947-1956?? : hand reverse "thumb switch" usually on side of loco

My knowledge of Marklin after 1956 is very limited so I am not exactly sure how long the hand switches were used. I know after a certain year the blue transformers could change direction of the loco by simply turning the knob on the transformer left or right...to me, these are the "modern era locos" BigGrin BigGrin

Hi,

The last regular locos which were eqipped with that switch were produced 1963/65. Later (until 1971) two PRIMEX-locos and an export-version of the 3029 had no build-in reverser and only a manual switch.

The 3047 (introduced 1964) never had such a switch. But the earlier versions of the 44 690 (ref. 3027, 3009...) had one.

Regards

Markus

As far as I can see from Märklin Archiv:

3000, DB 89 005, was made from 1953 to 1957 and 1962 to 1969 and had the shift lever all the time. 1+1 versions
3021, DB V200 006, never had the shift lever obviously wrong, see information from Dreadnought below.
3031, DB 81 004, had the shift lever from 1959 to 1963, one version.
3048, DB 01 097, had the shift lever from 1960 to 1972, four different versions.

Edit: corrected information about 3021

I have 3021, V 200006. I got it for Christmas 1958. If I assume the end with "1" on the door is the "front", and the door with "2" on it is the back. Then the reverse lever is on the left slightly back of centre. It would be directly under the "U N" of "BUNDESBAHN". I think this model came out in 1957, but I am not sure.

3034, E 41024, blue version has it on the left, underneath the body, again, if I use door "1" as the front. On the left is the "catenary, slider" switch.

My BD 01 097 ( M 3048) has it on the right side just behind the smoke deflector.I am not sure when mine was made. I received it in 1964.

All of them still work. The only repairs have been new brushes, and cleaning. They hold up better then I do

Anyway those four locos seems to be over 40 old and all those working perfect like swiss clocks. It is amazing how

I have a 3015, which I believe was produced in 1969, with a hand lever which supplements the solenoid reversing. It works well, in fact better than the solenoid which needs some attention.

Cheers,

Mike
