hello to all
looking at the wonderful site of Peter Funck I found his page about contact tracks
I have a problem understanding however how the 5146 tracks in comparison to the homemade track (which is not hard to make)
as I understand the 5146 uses brown and the yellow wire of the equipment to be switched as opposed to the homemade which uses the red wire (center track contact)?
how do you use the homemade track then to switch equipment?
thank you all foe time and effort
best regards
Xavier
ps.gone working for a couple of days

Some misunderstanding, either from me or from you it seems.

Normal different kind of contact tracks follow the same principle: when the train passes, a contact is closed to ground (brown). 5146 and the like do it by the slider pushing a lever, which makes it direction dependendant (different contact are closed in differenct directions. Home made tracks (which NOT are easy to make with M-track) close this circuit by the axles, meaning that there is no detection of the trains diretion of travel.

Contact C track (with lever) are normally connected to ground in the same way, however, this may easily be changed to close any circuit, direction dependence. Reed contacts may also be use diretion dependent (if placed assymetrically), and close any circuit.
