Hello All,

I am about to perform a 60904 conversion, where I cannot use the orange return line for the rear lights. According to many, the lights may flicker when connected to mass, but how bad is this realy ? And would a small capacitor solve this flickering ? This should not harm the function output, I guess.

Which locomotive are you upgrading and why are you not able to use the orange wire?

Could you post a picture of the inside of the locomotive so we may better understand your situation?

It's the 3070, Swiss/Dutch TEE 5 car combination. Special 3-wire connectors run through the complete train. I want to use 1 wire for car interior lights, to be switched through a function output, 1 wire is for the white front light of the last car, and the last wire is for the red tail light of the last car.

In this way, no wire is available for the return wire.

Basically, orange is DC+
Some time ago, perz came with a smart and simple way to create this, using the wheels and pickup shoe, plus 2 diodes:

Look ma, no wires! biggrin
Thanks Per!

Hello all: I too am planning a conversion of a 3070, although I am planning on just adding a Delta decoder (66032). The reverser in it does not really work. My question is whether one has to do anything special to this Triebwagon given that the pickup shoe that is active is direction dependent in the original? Thanks.

I think Uhlenbrock offer something like an add-on to their decoders that enables direction dependent selection of the pickup shoe. Have a look at their web site - www.uhlenbrock.de - before you buy your 66032.

Hello Micheal, hello All,

Are you sure you need the direction dependent pick-up shoe ? Because normally this is only necessary when you want to stop the train by cutting power to the track (or a section), including the powerless emergency stop tracks that are recommended to use with braking modules.

I will not use this feature in my 3070, because I stop the train fully digital without powerless section. However I will keep the shoe on the last car, because I want to have train detection there when I drive rearwards. I use 2 ways of detection:
1) Insulated section, which the axles of the train will connect to ground when passing.
2) Current detection in certain sections. For this, a small current needs to be detected, so I have connected the pickup-shoe in the rear car through a resistor to mass. In this way, the rear car will always use a very small amount of power, enough to detect the train when driving reverse. Power to the motor always will come through the pick-up shoe of the motor car, regardless of direction.

Best regards,
Gregor
