So,where i want to shove a "locked" Marklin decoder is of little relevance here hehehehe, but i have a Lokprogrammer from ESU here for a trial and i like it.

I have altered sounds and perfected driving charasteristics and so forth.I have 4 ESU decoders now. That 18 201 i bought from Roco lets me in and let me play, but it wont read any Marklin decoder. It recognizes the MFX stuff, but doesnt want me to alter stuff.

So the question is......who has cracked the Marklin decoder?Surely some wizzkid somewhere has done it.

You can tell me,i wont tell anyonebiggrin

Here is how I managed to use the Lokprogrammer with the new Marklin BR 64 (39640) to read, change, and write any CVs - sound cannot be changed.

1) open the loco and extract the ESU loksound decoder - note the 21
pole connector - the built-in electronics is to control the brush less
motor.

2) connect pin 21 and 22 of the decoder to the programming track -
the polarity does not matter

3) connect a 1K resistor between pin 18 and 19 to simulate the
presence of the motor.

4) read the full CV set with the Lokprogrammer software on your PC

5) put back the decoder into the loco.

6) change and write any CVs as you like

Note: step 1 to 5 are required only the first time. As long as you
save any changes to a file on your pc you do not need to repeat these
steps ever.

It worked great for me. Among others, I changed the intensity of the
the lights, activated the smoke mode for AUX1, reduced the intensity
of the smoke unit, reassigned various functions and adjusted various
sound parameters here and there.

Have fun

Cesare

But if the Lokprogrammer reads the decoder....what stops one from loading a completely new sound project?

Monster, Marklin mfx decoders are locked from the user being able to change any sounds.

See http://www.esu.eu/en/support/faq/lokprogrammer/

"I can not overwrite the sound files of my Märklin mfx-Sounddecoder?

This was done for a reason. All Märklin mfx sound decoders are protected against any changes, deletion or overwriting of the original sound files.

All the parameters of the CV's like maximum speed, acceleration and deceleration can be changed at any time."

However, as you suggest, I'm sure someone with the right skills could 'crack' the restrictions. The trick is to find that someone.

Another way: pull the decoder out of the CCS/SDS loco and plug it into any "normal" loco (with five-pole motor). Lokprogrammer should be able to read it there.
