Hello everyone, hope all is well. I thought some might find it interesting to see what is different between the same model 5 pole and coreless locomotive. This steamer is a BR 86.  The frame on this model seems to be identical. Notice the small core less motor on the one to the right. This motor is nestled in a motor bracket which keeps it stable against the worm gear. The lower portion of this bracket seems to be the same size as the 5 pole motor magnetic case. What I have noted is the core less motor bracket does not have a part number assigned on the Marklin parts diagram. Apparently, this piece is not available to the customer. It would seem if we could get this bracket part 3D printed, we would be able to replace a 3 or 5 pole with a coreless motor. Is anyone aware of these brackets being produced? You need to take a pic of the good side, then mirror this to the other side,,, and perhaps keep away from the small radius curves, the usual culprit.

Hello, hope all is well.
Thanks for the suggestion, but these are a bit more complicated than the earlier versions. There is an extra link to the mechanism which is out in front of what is usually modeled. This is a newer version of the BR 86 and the extra linkage is being modeled on this one. I thought I could point this out by enlarging my photo, but I lose the detail. You can see it a bit in my original photo.
Of course, most all of these links are for show anyway, but must be properly reattached to prevent binding or rubbing on another nearby bar.
I tried a number of different things but most were unsuccessful. I used tape which was advertised as designed for sensitive or delicate work, but the parts are so small it wouldn’t stay together. I used a magnet but learned the smaller links are not magnetic as I thought this could be used to keep things in place while trying to reattach the pin. The links just keep moving out of place and this was very frustrating. I would try different things, the put things down until I could think of something else. I needed to come up with a solution to solve the puzzle. After several weeks of trying different things, I decided to use some spit to keep everything from moving, and this worked. I used some spit and placed each link on top of the wheel attaching point. I think there were three and then the link with the pin in it. Once this was done, I added the pin to the top of the pile and used the flat end of a tool to press it in.
I was surprised at the amount of effort which was required and I now believe this pin was only loosely attached and this lead to the failure.
This is yet another story which supports the theory “There is nothing easy in Z”. Thought you might find this to be an interesting story. Who would this spit could solve a problem with these delicate jewels. Maybe this is a trick used at the factory. I hope I revived this one.
