Comparison between Uhlenbrock and Maerklin systems

I am building a new layout with Marklin C-track and the maerklin digital system. I plan to operate the layout with a Apple iMac running OSX (Leopard). Can someone advice me the suitable interface between the layout and the Mac. I understand I could either use a Maerklin system CS1/CS2 or 6021 or a Uhlenbrock Intellibox. What are the essential differences and strong points. Cost will be an issue too. |

If costs is an issue and you are going to run using a personal computer, then all you need is an interface to get your computer to the track.
Intelliboxis what most people who use computer control seem to use.
Price an issue, then I would not use CS2 - it is probably not stable enough for you now.
But you might geta good price on a CS1 ???
I am using CS2 and really like it. It would seem to have the features that most people have with computer control. |

Love those Era 1 Tank Locomotives - the more the merrier.

An Ebay CS1 connected via Ethernet + SDL seems like a good option to me... |

Thank you Michael, Frostie adn Juhan. Juhan's suggestion is most appealing. I am now bidding on eBay. One question though- I realise that there have been some hardware/software updates to the CS1. How do I make out that the CS1 is the latest? |

Gruetzi Gautam: The CS1 hardware is the issue, the software can be upgraded via downloads. I am many MANY miles from my CS1 at the moment, so perhaps others can answer this.--MM |

V2.0.4 is the current software version for the CS1. As long as the CS1 you buy is at v2.0.3 you should be able to upgrade to 2.0.4. I have the 2.0.4 update file if you need it. Also, make sure your CS1 has the v2 hardware update - the s88 module and 6021 sniffer port. Check out this forum thread for pictures on what the v2 hardware upgrade should look like. https://www.marklin-user...ault.aspx?g=posts&t=7187
