I am considering incorporating a turntable into my layout.
I do not expect to use it a great deal, and I would prefer not to have to let it into the baseboard so as to retain flexibilty. I have seen in the dealers a number of turntables which appear to meet these criteria, some of which are manual.
My question is are any such turntables suitable for use with C track?

I don't own the M* turntable yet, but I believe you need the adapter track if you are using C-track.

The 7286 from marklin needs the 24922 adapter track if you use c track.

Yes you would need adaptor pieces for an old M track turntable used with C track. The old turntables are incredibly noisy! They come up on ebay several times a year. You should be able to get one for £30 to £50 . Make sure it comes with its controller and it has been tested as they can be incredibly fiddly to get working.

in the early 80's i succeeded im 'marrying' the Fleischmann turntable (which became later available as M turntable, too) wirh the M track directly, it was not much work to do, so you are not dependent on the size of the adapter pieces (and the money they cost). But it has to be built in into the baseboard then, and as the C track is nearly of the same height than the M-track i think this one does not meet your requirements. good luck alfred |

And... if you go with the Märklin TT you could also consider bypassing the rather badly designed control by buying yourself a new Fleischmann controller 6915. This controller is / will be fully compatible with the Märklin TT and have the advantage of simply selecting the track you want to go to, instead of having the bridge to stop and wait for your response at every track it passes. |

I just have discovered another turntable manufacturer : Bowser Trains. It seems that you may have the choice of track. So, maybe K-Track would fit ... Pierre.

Now that the Fleischmann Turntable control switch 6915 is supposed to have been on the market for some time, I wonder if any one has yet tried it with the M* 7286 Turntable. According to Fleischmann specs, it should be fully compatible, and the user interface seems to be quite nice.

Hi, It seems that the current Märklin turntable has more shade than light sides. Should we expect a retooling/upgrade any time soon? I have been holding off purchasing one waiting to see if they come up with an improved product. |
Best regards, Armando García

hello armando, that's always the question if you want to buy a product which is a little bit older..the tt was constructed by fleischmann i think in the late 70's in two versions, one of them capable to serve for AC maerklin system (no. 6652, extensions 6653). at that time a big improvement compared to the old maerklin tt with its unflexible fixed track location. i bought one in the early 80's, but that time was of course pre-digital. i never had problems with it, the only thing i remember was that is was a bit noisy from the motor. it is still in its box and awaiting awakening with my next layout. there are some shortcomings on it looking from now : the signals are unlighted, but there are hints available to overcome that it represents a 27m prototype which fits not into smaller loco stations maybe operation with the fleischmann control 6915 is an option in 'native' mode only k-tracks connects to it directly the nowadays RRP of 370 euro is IMHO very high for us 'normal' members here but there are some on ebay, maybe the best deal is to look for the FLM 6652, but of course then you do not have an original 'masterpiece'......
i will use it in my next layout with a 15 stand loco shed from pola (now faller)(3 sets) which supports 7,5 degree track connection. furthermore i will use my second one (bought on ebay 3 years ago for about 110 euros) as a 'standalone' tt just for turning the locos without connecting to a shed, this is a prototype situation which existed not seldom.
because the tt is i think not a very high demanded product i expect no new version in the next few years.

I really like what Pierre did in his thread about modifying the Walthers turntable. I think I may try something like that when I get to that stage.

By the way Biddaddynz, do you know who's layout this is? I'll like to get in contact to find out some details. |

Mike, check the 'Kontakt' section of the website, or you could email them at mail@pmw-winnenden.deFrom a Google translation of the website, it appears the layout was started by 5 friends who wanted to have a shared MRR hobby over the winter months and proceeded to build a large layout. The origins go back some 40+ years. I had previously come across this website when searching the internet, but I recently received a brochure about the layout with a shipment of Marklin items I got from ETS. Most humorous are the double train tracks going through the toilets! What you see in the pictures Lutz posted is about 1/20th of the actual layout.
