Hi guys, I need to squeeze a siding in to a very small place. It will all be straight track, so I figured the high speed turnouts 24711 and 24712 take the least space. Can they be connected in either of these ways? I mean is there enough room for the plastic C track base if connected like this? Thanks! BR, -Eino

In places where you need very few space between tracks, maybe better to use the K track wide turnouts. They give you 57 mm track spacing between parallel tracks. What you ask probably can be done by cutting the slopes of the C tracks pieces near the joints. The biggest problem is probably the cuttings that you may need to do close to he lever. If you are not careful maybe the turnout will be pretty much unusable. There are other members (I think very few) that have experience in cutting the C track side slopes and their advise is for sure better than mine.

Hi I wsih to bounce back on Miguel's post on how easy it is to modify C track geometry In this example I had an unrealistic track just after a triple turnout So I had to shorten one of the triple switch but underneath, the motor was in the way. So I made the cut after the motor just like this After filing and ajustment it went like this And the result is like this now What I am trying to say is this is easy and take a couple of hours What is needed in this case - a cutting disk (I use diamond disk with a Proxxon hand drill) - a 24630 triple sw - a piece of R2 curved C track - a soldering iron - glue: cyanocrylate + hotmelt Cheers Jean |

Hi Jean,
Your solution looks very good, so congratulations on that. Probably doing this type of things is easier for you, and that is good. What I mean about the lever side doesn't apply to your situation. Imagine you have one track passing in the space of the lever. That would be more difficult, most probably...

Hi Miguel Because I had a number of old (brittle) C track pieces (1997 or so) I could make some tries just to see how easy it is. "Imagine you have one track passing in the space of the lever." Now regarding the track lever mechanism, it looks like this It is plain to see that if you accept to get rid of the lever and the lighted lantern, it becomes really easy. I have purchased my set of diamond cutting disks on a flea market in Florida for 5 USD and they last almost forever. Just take a piece of damaged C Track and try it. It is REALLY easy Jean |

Hi jean,
I see your point and agree. I also have some old C track and know what you mean. If one accepts to remove the hand lever, yes, I don't see a problem.

I'm glad to tell that the lever and the lantern will not be touched while placing two 24711 face to face, as you can see in this trimmed picture of my layout. All you need is cutting out only the side of the ballast. Really, what you do with a 24071 is separating the removable side of the ballast. A good thread to find inspiration is https://www.marklin-user...s--and-innovations/page5I had prepared a scheme with several possibilities, some of them taken from that thread and others experienced by myself: Regards Paco
