You only need the Piko one if you are doing 2-rail, they are not competing with Marklin in 3 rail, just as Marklin are not competing in the 2-rail H0 market by leaving out the Trix H0 model.

I note from the Modellbahn Kramm homepage that Piko are also doing a G Scale version, which I suspect may preclude Marklin doing a G1 version.

Interesting 🧐 have Piko and Marklin done a deal?
If so it’s a good thing personally 👍
Although Marklin may still do a gauge 1 version as G gauge is a little weird with its narrow gauge track and a standard gauge loco. Maybe LGB will not make one.

I don´t like this way by cooperation with the Piko.
Trix offers customer two rail with the mfx protocol which is a good deal by use CS3.
But Piko never put this protocol mfx for the two rail models.

Any biters for the 218 Diesel?

I guess it would go alright with a set of IC coaches, either single or double deck coaches.

Not my cup of tea, it is a bit of a mish mash of design trying to look like a steam engine and an IC loco. I don't know what that particular private company normally hauls - it might be a coal train.

The BR 44 1315 Märklineum locomotive is probably close to release.
Based on the decoder project, it will be no 39889 and otherwise similar to 39884 in the decoder configuration. But it has an extra sound function in f25 with the locomotive history.

observed it was available as a decoder project for download in mDecoderTool3.

Clever deduction, always interesting to see what updates are available.

I wouldn't be surprised that that will be the catalogue number, marklin do tend to use xxxx9 for special edition locos where there is a series of a loco.

So first item for the Herbst New Items? (apart from the usuals of the Christmas wagons etc)

That is what Vilithejou said in this thread on 23rd august.

And that is the date I would expect, as it is the weekend the IMA would have been at Marklin this year, until it was cancelled, and that event has become the time when the Herbst New Items are presented each year.

It was on the back of the German issue of the Marklin Magazine , I think 02/2021.

i saw it advertised for pre-order on both Hunnerbein and Modellbahn-Kramm at that time.

Woohoo, a class 800 loco, after all these years! Only gripe: it's the excursion 844, not the era-IV loco.

Hmmm, a Gauge 1 BR147, available in several liveries, plus more G1 container wagons.

Not surprising since KM1 have also issued G1 container wagons, and they have a G1 Vectron on the way next year, which I have pre-ordered at a cheaper price than the Marklin BR147.

An email has just come through with the brochure links

agree the 37984 looks quite interesting, and it also has "Dynamic smoke exhaust" Cool
I also observe in the manual, that the exploded drawing shows two "large" speakers mounted at an angle in the tender. That is promising in terms of sound quality.

Hello all,

One thing I am surprised is the 844 has a 37xxx item number. As Märklin usually reserves 39xxx for very accurate and more cared models, do you think it is intended to be a top model?

Yes, near the top. New 3700 series are now MFX+, the main diffeence from 3900's seems to be fewer functions. Unless marklin has future plans for the 3900 designation as a new unique feature or drive system for premium models.

I thought more attention was given to details in the newer models of the 39 series. I hope you are right. For me sound functions are usually in excess and this 844 has the dynamic smoke that's a feature I really value!

I am very positive about the 844!

All the Marklin Big Boys are 3799x numbers so I don't think there will be any issues with the 844 having a 37xxx number.

The Challengers were 3911x numbers but price wise the 844 is the same as the Challengers, so expect the 844 to be of similar quality.

Until the fans that blow the smoke around fail, that is.......Scared

Dynamic Smoke is a neat feature, the reason the smoke comes out of the bottom of the cylinders is because there are some fans in behind that blow the smoke around. In my KM1 1 Gauge BR01 the fans are installed in the actual smoke unit. Given how small the 1 Gauge fans are, and the fact that KM1 say you will need to replace the fans every 3 or 4 years makes me wonder about the use of Dynamic Smoke in H0 models.

Still, the 844 is a nice model and I'm tempted but then I'm tempted by lots of things in the catalog!

Have a look at the pictures in https://www.marklin-user...KM1-01-180-1-Gauge-loco- to see how small the fans are in a G1 loco.

For a moment, I got excited about the release of an IC2 in Z (87298). However, on looking at the pictures on the Märklin website, I see that it is just a repaint of their existing double-deck carriages - the cab car is very noticeably incorrect for an IC2. Crying ThumbDown

I think that the price tag for the two Challengers was 750,00 euros.

I did gulp a bit at the cost of the G1 display cases, which appear to be a cross between a g1 trainsafe and a Roco/Fleischmann Smartrail system.

Even allowing for the mechanism in the base that allows the wheels to run (which I suspect is a pair of bands similar to a Smartrail) with corresponding electronics and Wifi or Bluetooth interface (they don't say which it is, just that you use a web interface on your phone) this seems a bit bit high.

It might be a photo pick-up synchronizing the smoke along with sound. Two feeds to the decoder rather than one. Fans to force the smoke past the cylinder though?

By some reason, yesterday I didn't notice this portion of your reply. I think the reliability of the fans is one of the causes for Märklin
be presenting an H0 steamer only after others have done it (at least Roco and ESU). The fact that this is a huge locomotive may give more room for the fan (I think it will have only 1 fan), although obviously still less room than a Gauge I BR01.
If the dynamic smoke will work ok in the 844, I think we will have it also in some Big-Boys, challengers and at least the Belgian steamers. I really would like to have it working in an H0 BR01.

This locomotive and the BR 194 are my temptations for this year. I will decide when they will be available.
Last year I only bought the RAm and the UP yellow coaches for the Big-Boy. Also some very few used analogue items.
Best regards,
Miguel
Mostly Märklin H0.

Disappointed in the Xma car - it's so similar to last year, I had to go back and check it wasn't just a re-release of the same item!

Happy with my decision to pre-order the Rainbow ICE - and wow those Gauge 1 models certainly look the part... and cost it too haha!

I edited my post, and you probably read the first half while I was adding the 2nd half.

I'm assuming there are fan(s) of some sort used for dynamic smoke based on my G1 experience but I don't know for sure.

I saw a retail pre order price today for the new 844 of $719 US. That shop tends to be on the high side.
As for sound functions, my 37474 has 28 functions total and I like them all.

Hello,

Attached are screenshots from the manual of UP 844.

You clearly see the smoke module (Ref E353 931). It most probably works like the BR85 from Roco with the 1.5ml smoke fluid reservoir and a fan blowing the smoke according to speed.
