Hi,
Owner of E0417 equipped by 600987 decoder and looking for electric wiring diagram for its lighting. Considering that I am using red and white color LEDs. Could somebody help me?

Hi Costas
So I assume you have a 3049 E 04 017 in grey livery already converted with a 60987 and you want to add LEDs.
- All LEDs anodes are to be connected with the decoder's blue wire
- the front white LED cathode is to connect to a 2.2 kOhm resistor and the other resistor's side to the decoder's white wire
- the front red LED cathode is to connect to a 2.2 kOhm resistor and the other resistor's side to the decoder's yellow wire
- the rear white LED cathode is to connect to a 2.2 kOhm resistor and the other resistor's side to the decoder's yellow wire
- the rear red LED cathode is to connect to a 2.2 kOhm resistor and the other resistor's side to the decoder's white wire
I hope this helps
Jean

Hi Jean,
You well guessed and thank you for your instructions.
Meanwhile, I measured supply current on decoder's wiring and found that can work also connecting, yellow wire on the red color LED cathode, grey color wire on the white color LED cathode and orange color wire on both LED anodes via 10K and 4.7K resistors. It works properly as well.

Hi Costas
It is up to you but if you really use a 60987 then orange is a motor connection see here the page of the user's manual. The colors to use are in the green frames of the picture. The common (+) for all outputs is the blue wire

color codes NEM.jpg
Cheers

Hi Jean,
Noted well with thanks.
In the meantime, I watched your videos about layouts you made during last years. I am also planning to make a new layout using catenary system on it, but I have no experience about. Could you advise me where to find out construction manuals about with drawings, considering that I'll use K tracks. Probably, I might be annoying, but you look experienced.
Thanks in advance
Costas

Hi Costas

I have older Layout books but they are with M track. I will be happy to send an electronic copy of what I have but I need your email address you could send me by private message.
I used Wintrack (version 10) and available free 3D buildings (in the swap area of Wintrack website) to figure out the possibilities. I recommend it but it is not the cheapest.
The key things to consider are (IMO):
- all the ramps not to be more than 3% when straight and 2.5% when curved
- build a module approach so you don't have to destroy all if you need to move
- fix yourself a maximum train length and verify that all your train stop zones are above this (I have 2 lengths: full main line train 1.6 m and secondary train .5 m
- critical is to think about the circulations you wish to make to optimize your layout by many simulations
Here is one of the views I obtained using Wintrack
new layout.jpg
The buildings are not the ones I finally decided for.
Here is the real layout

I hope this helps
Jean

Hi Jean,
I forgot to mention that my layout can't be more than L=280cm x W=135cm maximum, so no many choices :(. Already designed track layout, but any friendly proposal or recommendation is welcomed. My wish is to run 4 locos at the same time and I am planning to use Arduino to control switches and signals. I would say also that most of my locos are electric ones and that why I would use catenary system. So, any recommendation is welcomed. You can send all available data to: cphana@otenet.gr. They will be welcomed.
Thanks + regrads,
Costas

Hi Costas
So to help you I need some info:
- size: L=280cm x W=135cm
- number of levels? 1, 2?
- number of loops 1 or 2?
- number of passing tracks 2 or more?
- number of reversing loops: 0, 1 or 2?
- type of garage tracks: for goods or for long passenger cars?
- number of garage tracks?
- type of track C, K other?
Cheers
Jean

Hi Jean,
I am sending to you a handy drawing of my Marklin K track layout, if you'll include green line, so need to have 3 lavels (-1, 0, +1), passing tracks can be 4 and I think that I can use long passenger cars as well.
I guess that you can consult me better.
Thanks in advance,
Costas

Hi Costas
I just received your drawing
Costas.jpg
So I see you have only one return loop and presently 2 levels
You look for a K track project, now on 3 levels, with steering zone on the bottom of the drawing
size: L=280cm x W=135cm
- number of levels: 3
- number of passing tracks 4
- number of reversing loops: 1 or 2?
- type of garage tracks: for goods or for long passenger cars?
- number of garage tracks?
- type of track: K (Important please confirm)
So it is about adding shadow stations on level 0 and may be another reversing loop.
Please confirm all this and I will prepare a draft layout
Cheers
Jean

Hi Costas
First I replicated you sketch. Here it is (not grades are OK yet)
Here is the plan
costasplan1.jpg
Here is the 3D sketch
costas3D.jpg
Here is from the other side
costas3D2.jpg
Not all the grades are correct.

Unlike on your sketch, the tracks take much more space and it is a bit crowded.
I used radii from 360mm and up
I find difficult to add another level on this plan.
What do you think?
Cheers
Jean
