To be honest, sadly 500 euros is not that bad for a factory job here.
My fiancé works at a factory in Sopron, and they get ~380 Eur a month if they do 100% of the norm, (if more, they get paid more, but not much. Alas the norms are such, that you are lucky for 100, and if you get less, then you are paid less)
And the countrys western side pays better, so a lot of people emigrated to us from the eastern parts of hungary, because you can get sometimes ~40% more for the same.

I don't know the exact amount that Märklin pays, but the company has recently said that it has lost experienced workers and doesn't get any job applications for vacancies in Györ. That's exactly what was said in a German press report, so I suppose that Märklin's salaries are not competitive.

I think the comment was made that Porsche and Mercedes pay their workers better than Märklin do, so the workers prefer to go to those companies, hence the worker shortage from Märklin's perspective.

That's right, David. There's also an Audi factory nearby. By the way, I drive an Audi, but I've never asked where it was made because it's very reliable. The only breakdown I've had in six and a half years was when the diesel pump suddenly stopped working and the car stalled. Then I needed a rental car for two days, and Audi actually paid for that ...
