As for pulling power, it depends much more on the chassis...
Good model with even weight distribution pulls better.
(IMO, the old decapod will pull better compared to BR50.40, but we'll see about it when it comes out..)
Much have been said here about improving its quality;
If Marklin want to continue using them, why can't they tinker with its refinement so that it matches HAG's type 88 motor?

Al my F7s with double DCM motorization are quite silent....
The problem is that Industry standard is can motor....
Cheap, simple, quiet, and generally problem free until it need replacement.
Every brand, every manufacturer uses it.
Everything that Marklin made is therefore compared to the "can" standard.
And the market has spoken... they prefer can vs DCM; or MaTrix market share would've been even more dominating.
SDS and large Sinus are both the best motors in the business, great concept, excellent end product.
it's unfortunate that Marklin made one too many mistakes from conception, technical issues, to marketing,
not the least bungling up even the BIG strategy..
As a result, instead of being the next big thing, in some ways, Sinus technology also drive many customers away...
many simply felt tired being treated like lab rats, or being played around by uncertainties ... add the usual excellent PR service and lack of clarity of information during their most difficult development phase..
.. these all worked to undermine the success of current SDS.
After all the trials and errors, in its latest SDS form, Marklin has finally created an excellent, mature, and very reliable propulsion system... it's distinctive, and superior than both DCM or can, even if it's more expensive cost wise.
IMO, SDS simply guarantees quality in every way that counts if you're willing to give it a shot.
The only reason why you'd want to avoid it, is if you're still running analog.
It will be a pity should Marklin ultimately decide to abandon it.
And right now, signs doesn't look that good...
