37322 SBB Re 6/6 11666 "Stein Am Rhein"
37461 BLS Re 465 (460 005 "Niesen"?)
The BLS Re 465 mentions changeover from Swiss to Euro lights. I presume that this refers to the changeover from white to red taillight(s). It is not clear whether this is one white to two reds or just one red like the 39601-39610 loks.
I have also not been able to tell which lok number, but the logo looks like 465 005, which is one of the loks normally assigned to passenger traffic. The correct coaches for this lok would be the Liliput BLS EWIII or Hag or Liliput EWI or GoldenPass coaches.
29483 Swiss Freight Train Set with MS
Once again, Maerklin has decided to offer a Set with a Re 421. I cannot understand why they can't offer a Re 420 instead of the Re 421, which has already been released twice (37345 and 29481). Why not offer a Re 420 (Re 4/4II in Cargo colours) with normal handrails and regular Swiss pantographs) or even maybe a Re 430 (Re 4/4III) for a change?
42164 It is nice to see the EWIV Push-Pull Train back again. This set can be expanded with the 42173 Elevetino Restaurant coach. I think that it would have been really cool if they would have gone with a modified EWIV A as AS (with baggage compartment), an EWIV A and two EWIV B and left the pilot coach as the separately available 42179.
Another cool idea would have been if Maerklin would have introduced a Set of EC coaches in the new (so-called ICN) livery, as advertised for the Zuerich-Munich route. This would have been an H0 scale first and a guaranteed big seller.
37702 ICE 1. Another question for Maerklin, how about a version of the model with additional pantos, which are designed also for use in Switzerland? They released the "Elizabeth" Set but never the coaches to go with it. A complete trainset would be nice!
The Am842 is back. The description says condition about 2003. A model of the more recent leased loks used in Italy would have been nice too.
See:
http://www.railfaneurope...9__2008-01-26_Novara.jpg
The Re 6/6 is on my list. The Re 465 is under consideration. I like the SBB 4-car freight train and the wood container cars.
Now, all I have to do is wait for the Hag, LS Models and ACME New Items and I can set my budget for the year.
Regards
Mike C

Wow!
This is truly impressive!
Feels like M has stapped out of its own grave!
My dreams are coming true:
The F7 in UP colors, the tin plate boxcars (M,can you read my mind?),the BR23 in old 50/60ties style, and all the rest as well!
Well done M,in turn i will support you till the end of times!
And now let us wait for the Dutch surprise you have in store for us,that must be no doubt truly amazing as well!
M lovers over the globe:unite and celebrate,M is back and here to stay!

I knew it, I knew it! Although I didn't say it on the forum, I had a feeling mother M would release another version of the Tee VT 11.5, and they have, the 37607 BR601.
Oh dear, I was hoping that this would be a cheap year!

First of all, quite surprised with the change of strategy...
BR39 is less than 2 years old new Insider model, yet already released for Outsiders. The normal wait time is usually around 4 years btw.
As an outsider, I'm very happy with the change!
Now, Marklin can really showcase their trully best model to attract the mass market.
Look at the new BR39 (M39392) - Era II Prussian tender... arguably even more unique than the original 39390.
The BR 042 is a welcome of course.. but can't help thinking that the new BR50.40 should not have been the Insider model so that it could compete head on in the more lucrative German decapods market. In exchange the 42 can be the Insider... the Mikado segment is already filled somewhat by the release of Era II BR39 anyways..
But suggesting from the pace of things, it won't be long before new style Marklin decapods swarm the market... prob in 2013.
For Swiss items: the release of M42164 (push-pull SBB EW IV set) and M47075 SBB Cargo set look to be delicious options for me. As for the BLS Re465, I'd definately prefer a Roco alternative, or the old 39606.
Now, the Bad:
No brand new Soft Drive Sinus tooling for two years in a row
All those who are familiar with the demise of the large Sinus motor should get the picture by now. This is more and more like a repeat of the year 2005/2006.
Only the Ce6/8III, Baden IVh, BR64, and BR39 seem to be retaining the SDS crown. No SDS for Era IV and Era V electrics.. So get all of them before they're gone....
Another bad omen: New V200s now comes in noisy DCM... (sigh)
That's another model decrowned.
Now collecting C-Sine models.

Overall, great new year catalog for existing Marklinist who are familiar with the range.. but not enough consideration IMO to attract new customers.
For instance:
I'm impressed with the effort they've put into the USA market. Existing Marklin collectors have reason to be very happy, but I seriously doubt that their DCM propulsion (and the typical Marklin price) will impress any new prospective customer accustomed with smooth can motor with flywheel - and this will be one of the things that newcomers be comparing them with...
It's crazy counting the number of unrefined DCM models that they released this year... where is the progress?
These range should be gradually reduced, not increased.

Looks quite interesting to me. The lack of a wireless remote control for the CS2 was a major turnoff for me, now there is an option. I assume it also works on an ipod?

The change is that it has a ouput off max 5a.
The new version has the same power as the old one and one booster.
The price is up 50 euro.

I've never been so happy not to collect DB Era III- I'd have spent a fortune this year! Some really nice stuff!!
On the purchase list though, I think here is my list:
- All the swiss freight and passenger car sets
- The little citroen-looking car that goes on the rails. Its cool!!
Other than that, no must haves. I already have a brown croc, red RE 6/6 (hag), the same swiss start set from the first time they did it, and BLS 465. No complaints here though, I think its a great lineup for 2011 and I'm excited I don't have a crazy lsit of purchases to fund like the last few years!
Also, it seems like Marklin has learned from a game Lionel has matered- the reissuing of old toolings complete down to the box. I think this is fantastic and everyone wins. My only hope is that they don't- over exploit it.
Good job Marklin!

Yeah, I called a shop a few hours ago and ordered it. It doesn´t matter if I have to feed on noodles rest of the year. I will have it!
According to the news brouchure it´s not 1999, it´s 999!!! But I don´t think it´s correct. 1.999 sounds more accurate and it´s what it says in Märklin database.

The era II summary, like anyone cares:
3 single engines
1 double engine pack (want)
4 separate carriages (not want)
1 6-car Rhinegold - for those that missed it the first eight times.
1 (count it) freight car set with 3 (count them) cars.
Especially impressed with 'supervisor's car' roll-thingy and the 'free' insider baggage car that require you to have purchased two (count them) other 3-car sets first.

My opinion:
The fact that the new 100W power supply also have mentioned the 60214 makes me believe this CS2 will be able to provide the 5A also... at least I hope so (probably with a new software version). I think the more power in the CS2 was really needed.
The new CS2 shoud have a WLAN interface so we could use the iThing App without the need of additional hardware. I think the 60216 have that!!
I also agree that there is too much DCM motors for my taste.
The Trix HO range is much smaller than Märklin HO. Probably the DCM motors count here. Trix fans don't buy DCM motors.
It's mostly a classical Märklin assortment. I think the new range of products is good and covers their market, anyway I cann't say I am
very impressed.
The excessive DCM motors disappointed me. They consume a lot of power: maybe that was one of the factors Märklin took in consideration when decided to make the CS2 provide more power :)) (of course it was the 90W of Ecos lol)
I am undecided yet, but probably the BR50.40, BR39, BR3.10s, and the croc. (I'll suffer only with the BR3.10s DCMs).
Although I will not buy it I like the new old BR23.
Best regards,
Miguel

I wonder if they were reading my posts here, they removed the caboose from the wagons, the most logical explanation is that the cabooses might be more expensive for such a marvelous set.
I will get two items: The f7 and the US tin plate set, maybe a nohab, the bluebird is way to expensive for me and of course i really do not like much these noisy PA-1.

Time will tell. Last year they announced the DHG 500 as "Neukonstruktion", this year it's the Lollo.
They don't say "all new" in the catalogue, only "new construction".
In a few months time we'll know more.

Anyone getting the Ferrovia Emilia Romagna diesel? That is one of my all-time favorite railroad paint schemes, but unfortunately that is the locomotive it looks the worst on!
I have some good memories on their trains so I'll get it, I just hope someone makes the "Vivalto" cars for it!

this DCM motor with direct drive gears = probably the most powerful motorization ever made at HO Scale those last 50 years...;
Of course, I prefer SDS or Big C Sinus or any brushless motors......but I still prefer the enduring DCM to any of those crappy can motors motors with a useless enormous fly wheel that seem to be there just to fill the space ( the vacuum ?
)and to look "rich" (technically)...
Al my F7s with double DCM motorization are quite silent....

Yes, you were right. That would fit beatifully together with the 37610 that I have.
Not so keen about the 600 euro price though!
It´s the same price as the 37624 but that one didn´t include a caboose!
So what! It's still very expensive. Must be the fancy 1960's retro blue box (which I like, BTW).

Very happy to note that the 37322 Re 6/6 appears to have gray painted pantographs. If Maerklin has finally stopped producing Swiss models with non prototypical black pantographs, I will be very happy.
If so, I will have to order spare parts to retrofit at least some of my Re 4/4IIs and EWIV WRms. The pantos should also fit on Hag loks as they are both Sommerfeldt originals.

DCM has good things going for it: longetivity, cheap part, easily servicable..
As for pulling power, it depends much more on the chassis...
Good model with even weight distribution pulls better.
(IMO, the old decapod will pull better compared to BR50.40, but we'll see about it when it comes out..)
Much have been said here about improving its quality;
If Marklin want to continue using them, why can't they tinker with its refinement so that it matches HAG's type 88 motor?

The problem is that Industry standard is can motor....
Cheap, simple, quiet, and generally problem free until it need replacement.
Every brand, every manufacturer uses it.
Everything that Marklin made is therefore compared to the "can" standard.
And the market has spoken... they prefer can vs DCM; or MaTrix market share would've been even more dominating.
SDS and large Sinus are both the best motors in the business, great concept, excellent end product.
it's unfortunate that Marklin made one too many mistakes from conception, technical issues, to marketing,
not the least bungling up even the BIG strategy..
As a result, instead of being the next big thing, in some ways, Sinus technology also drive many customers away...
many simply felt tired being treated like lab rats, or being played around by uncertainties ... add the usual excellent PR service and lack of clarity of information during their most difficult development phase..
.. these all worked to undermine the success of current SDS.
After all the trials and errors, in its latest SDS form, Marklin has finally created an excellent, mature, and very reliable propulsion system... it's distinctive, and superior than both DCM or can, even if it's more expensive cost wise.
IMO, SDS simply guarantees quality in every way that counts if you're willing to give it a shot.
The only reason why you'd want to avoid it, is if you're still running analog.
It will be a pity should Marklin ultimately decide to abandon it.
And right now, signs doesn't look that good...

Wow! Those are two interesting track setups.. I don't know what Marklin was thinking about lol..Since they can get two passing loops for the two mega digital starter sets , why not introduce a double-tracked version instead? (Just add a bit more tracks to achieve this goal!) And what 's up of them having two MS2 in a mega digital starter set lol.. Don't make sense..
Check out page 24 and 25 of the new item brochure. Both your questions are answered there.

OMG! OMG!!! (I know it´s the second time I'll be as amazed in this thread)
This morning my order showed up when I logged in at MJ Hobby. My preorder on 26490 PA ALCO BLUE BIRD is active! I was so excited last night I unpacked my 37610 ALCO PA and put it on the tracks. I love it!
Something strange is going on. The mentioned 37942 Swedish T44 has disappeared from the database. I suspect that this will be one of the summer news and slipped in to the database system. Therefore it didn´t have any picture nor was in the catalouge. It´s a little disappointing as this is my favorite locomotive type of Sweden.
Maybe a new thread for the planned purchases this year? My plan for last year failed. I only bought the 37624 from the american models.
Call me a traitor but it´s time to play Little Big Planet 2 on the Playstation 3!

The US items are not for me this time. I don't really like the F7's, the blue thing is way above my budget (and it is not yellow [I tried to wink here, but the wink smiley
looks disappointed rather than amused;-)] and the relex couplers of the tinplate freight cars prevent them from freely mixing with the majority of my rolling stock.
I would have loved it if M had celebrated its 50 years of US models by producing one of the two locomotives of the UP steam program: the 4-8-4 844 or the 4-6-6-4 3975.

In theory it could have happened once.
The Rheingold was the domain of the large pacifics

Hello,
The 37404 Green BR 140 appears to be the only "must add to the collection" item I see. Though I'm really curious what's up with the 60215 CS. Does anybody know what's different about it?
Thanks,
Rob

Electric Turnout Mechanism.
Elektrischer Weichenantrieb
So the 74490 has been around awhile, still produced. Now the 74491 is coming out (page 140)
So what is the difference?

They write "optimiert" (improved, optimized) - whatever that may mean.
The were many complaints about the shut-off contacts, maybe they changed those (just a wild guess).
