From last year's prices, if I recall correctly, lokshop was about 30% cheaper than Marklin's recommended prices. |

Normally, online dealers (including Lokshop) have 20% discount from retail price. I think Lokshop has a special price offer for 2010 New Items (cheaper than 2008 and 2009 items) - it wouldn't last for too long now that we're in 2011... and this deal may not be repeated for 2011 New items. |

Originally Posted by: SNAFU Generally how much cheaper are stores such as lokshop etc than the official Marklin store? Hi Tony I keep track (and record) on all my purchases using a. Excel spread sheet. This way i can easily see trends and do all sorts of calculations and do price predictions / estimations. Based on the data of my previous 18 to 24 months Märklin purchases from Lokshop, Lokshop prices are 30 to 34.5% lower than the suggested Märklin price (for non MHI items). For MHI items the prices are 16 and 18.5% lower. I do not included VAT in any of my purchase prices comparisons from Lokshop, since i do not pay VAT when I purchase from Lokshop. Also I do not know whether the Märklin recommended price includes 19% German Vat or not. Can anyone out there confirm whether the Märklin recommended price includes 19% German Vat? If the Märklin recommended price includes 19% Vat and i compare the Lokshop (+19% Vat) price, then the non-MHI items are priced on average 20.69% lower from Lokshop. I only bought two MHI items, on one there was no price difference and on the second item 3%. Regards |

Marklin include 19% German VAT in their price and if you are silly enough to buy from the shop you pay full price and VAT. If you order by mail from RSA you will still pay VAT plus an overcharge for postage..
Only good thing about the shop is the seconds bin. NN |

These are the prices which i used for my own "price" predictions / estimations, until Lokshop add the prices onto their web pages. I never buy from the Marklin store due to the hefty prices. Lokshop gives good service and i will continue to support them. |

Yes, Märklin RRPs include VAT. 19 % VAT means that you pay 19 Euro VAT when the total price is 119 Euro (RRPs include 15.96 % VAT). Divide RRPs by 1.19 to get price without VAT. |

Hi all & Mike C
Is it "worthwhile" going for sound etc in the new 2011 Ce 6/8 Krok #39565 Ep2 if you already have the Ce 6/8 Krok #39561 Ep 2?
Any suggestions / comments? |

Any suggestions / comments? To start with, a 39561 with large Sinus motor is a different model internally to the SDS 39562 - 39565. AFAIK this model can never be retrofitted with a newer decoder (full sound or otherwise).. this is due to the special driver electronic being integrated with its 6090x based decoder.. If you have any of the previous 39562, 39563, or 39564 with SDS motor - then these can be retrofitted with sound decoder; as the architecture of these SDS models allows for separate driver board. The decoder is plugged in to its 21-pin slot, so the original can be replaced with a full sound decoder, provided you can find one that fits. As 39565 is factory delivered with a full sound decoder, you will benefit from a tidy setup from the start. No need to fiddling around as with any of the previous models. |

Any suggestions / comments? Hi Herman, I guess it depends on whether you want full sound or not. Personally, I don't rate full operating sound on an electric to be that big a deal, so I would not consider it worthwhile. If you think that full sound is important, then you won't easily be able to upgrade your 39561, and you might want to consider this new loco. |

Herman,
I was very impressed with the operation of the original Sinus motor. The 39565 has the new SDS Drive, which is also impressive. From what I can tell, other than the addition of sound and the change of motorization, the models are pretty similar. I don't know whether you are specifically modelling that era (Era II) or whether you already have a green Krok as well, but I guess it all depends on your personal preference. If you have a big enough layout, you could potentially run the two in tandem in front of a large freight. Alternately, you could use one for freight and assign the other one to passenger trains. I am sure it would look good with last year's Liliput Gotthardbahn coaches in green. The other thing to consider would be what other loks you have in your collection. There is also the Maerklin Ae 8/14, Roco's Ae 4/6, Be 4/6 and the Roco model of the other design for the Krok and the Ae 8/14 or even the earlier model of the Ae 6/6 (gray skirt and silver roof) available in a few recent Start Sets. If you don't have any of those, you may wish to consider those. If you don't have a green Krok with sound, you might prefer to look for the one from the 29680 Set, which had the SDS and full sound as well. My expertise is primarily with the period since 1968 (when I discovered Swiss trains). I model trains that I have seen on trips to Switzerland and Europe in 1972, 1985, 1998 and 2003/2004. I am planning to go back at some point soon, to see the new RABe 511 doubledeck KISS (Flirt) trainset and the upgraded EC coaches so that I can add those to my "want" list. I hope that this info is of use to you.
Regards
Mike C

Evening Mike C / Tim / Ray & others
Somehow i got confused with Krok Ce 6/8 III 39562 (which i actually have) & 39561 - lapse of memory perhaps. The 39562 have SDS and some sound (not as comprehensive as the new 39565 Krok) and looking at the comments there is no "real need" to buy it. I also have the 'green' Krok 35960 with SD and an old analog AC Roco (#43941) Krok Ce 6/8 II (still to be converted).
Mike C, initially i tried to stick to Ep 2 for SBB as well (as with DRG), however after buying a new HAG Re 4/4 II (#160) lok in Zurich i am bound by the shotgun approach. Some more 2nd hand HAG loks followed the 1st.
Thanks for all the replies - it is appreciated. |

I couldn't get it from US/CAN for less than $520.00 delivered. A 42229 set cost $220 delivered, ECO again. US pricing around $275.00 delivered. Not stocked in Sydney that I'm aware of. Premium delivery will get it here in 8-10 days. With the current exchange rates, Aussies have never had it this good buying from either Europe or the US. The recent flooding has impacted and the rate is now around 1.38, but I'll be worrying more if the exchange rate goes above about 1.45. Until then I expect to keep buying from Europe. However, not sure that all european stores deduct the 19% gst component. |

Strange. There are alot of old items that have new numbers. The 36711 is back again and all the "new" rails has different numbers. What´s up with that? |
