You sure of this ? 40 cm shorter = you don't mean 40mm or 4 cm.

Add 2,5 mm on buffers on each side = everybody happy.

That's the reality of the world where customer demand become increasingly polarized and sophisticated.

Some people will baulk at 4.6mm or 2.5% scale difference in length - and this is the market share that Marklin will lose if they used that route.

Using the old tooling means DCM and plastic body - those who prefer the standard set by the new BR218 will question why Marklin's gone backwards, and walk away from the product.

Third option, Marklin could engineer totally new chassis to silence both sides of the critics, but it's an expensive option. Arguably, the money is IMO better spent on models that have more potential to be great money makers (like BR06, for example).

We'll see how Marklin resolved their dilemma.

Is this really a dilemma ?

Models, prices, authenticity, motors, led's, length, smoke generator, telex coupling, new or old tooling, CS, MS, tracks, turnouts,

Looks to me, Märklin has a long way to go and browsing through the answers, I can't see any member having any dilemma ordering or thinking of buying any of the models, at any price, plastic or not, noisy or quite motor, yellow or warm white led's, shorter, new or old tooling.
Although the discussion looks like having a healthy appetite for more, nothing is ever mentioned about electrically operated sleek double turnouts, as a new item or even on a wishlist and we had four days of showing off "Banana carriages", no mention of seeking a new version of a banana wagon, what a total disappointment.

All Märklin needs is a "Start of the Year Sale" and the floodgates would open up but you have to be kind to do this sort of thing, stupidity is only expected on the consumer side.

John

Interesting sets! A bit rich for me, though.

I do like that lollo. That's the first item on my list for this year.

Let's see what else we get...

This is also a really nice starterset (maybe on my 2011-wishlist):

But haven't we seen these containers (in the starterset) before in a Dutch Shop/Store-set (CMA, GeSeaco, Capital)?:

I mean 40 cm or 400 mm - and of course I'm speaking of 1:1 scale.

That's 4.6 mm in 1:87.

Article 37745 BR218 Ep IV

I always admired the previous BR218s as one of Marklin's best. Excellent level of details, great sounds.
The underframe design was amazingly of relatively simple shape compared to older tooling models like Ae6/6 - this in itself might have resulted in lower tooling/production cost for Marklin.
Of course, it always had the "right" motor at the heart of it. Although small and relatively lightweight, it has excellent pulling power, quiet running, and very smooth.

Now, it looks like Marklin had decided that it will have to be "Trix-ised" and given a DC can motor. (sigh)

The new premium sets are 3x the price of the old sets.
When I got back into the hobby, I was looking for a 200 Euro starter set.
These expensive sets are rather "upgrader sets" than "starter sets", I presume. A starter must be very enthusiastic to begin with a 1000+ Euro set.

Don't forget,
the bigger the set, the more incentive it is for some dealers and/or sellers to break the set apart and sell them separately for slightly better margin as opposed to selling the whole set.

It is riskier to be stocking such an expensive item which maybe quite difficult to move by virtue of its price.
By simple logic,
it'll also be easier to find buyers that have the cash to buy a single train set or CS2.

Wow! Those are two interesting track setups.. I don't know what Marklin was thinking about lol..Since they can get two passing loops for the two mega digital starter sets , why not introduce a double-tracked version instead? (Just add a bit more tracks to achieve this goal!) And what 's up of them having two MS2 in a mega digital starter set lol.. Don't make sense..Laugh

LOL.. Another TGV train (Thalys PBKA in new paint scheme)
Their TGV POS left a lot to be desired lol. Very noisy and draggy train. The two crappy motors shuts down the noise of a single decoder and speaker. I suspect 10 car will be worst.(Not much sound to be heard+increased burden) Laugh

Well, forget the bet.

One German dealer writes it's mostly metal.
This dealer has more information and a large picture:
http://www.modellbahnsho...gatt-gb-p-0/produkt.html
(the picture is era IV but text says era III)

Four axles powered and motor with bell-shaped armature.
Length is 182 mm (BR 218 is 189 mm).

Maybe it is the old mould, but now used with metal (they did that with E 03, 103, and V 60 already).

The same dealer writes that the BR 042 will be tender-driven:
http://www.modellbahnsho...gatt-gb-h-0/produkt.html

So I'm afraid we should handle this "information" as rumours until we see the Märklin brochure (with the famous "Handmuster" pictures).

You are right SINCrazee, never understood with in these premium sets they do not offer two loops, an easy answer would be to "force" you buy the extension set which i do not know if it still available.

Yep. Marklin wants a slice of the market that is currently spending up big on Playstation and Xbox hardware.
Most of those purchases have two controllers.

Let's see which tender they hook behind the BR 53 this time, maybe the condenser as with the 37021. I do have the 37023 but could be tempted with a condenser tender version. BigGrin Only a few days and we will know.

Another possibility is that the 37322 could also be another Re10/10 set with even wilder combination (Cargo-Cargo/Red-Green/Red-Red).

If you try the "Ersatzteillisten" link on 37320 - you can only see the Re6/6, hence the possibility that there is also an "invisible" Re4/4 II under this article.

no, just a wish...sorry. (I do like special MHI's....and I'm fond of US railways....specially : Marklin US models....)

My mistake : there are 5 different types of Marklin US models (in my former message I said 4 - )...

Is the 39022 in the DRG Livery or the Baden Livery and will it have sound?

I hope it'd be in Baden livery, no display case, or any of MHI labelling.

Well, if the speculation is correct then SDS survives another year in at least 5 locos.

But many more have been downgraded :(

A prediction on the BR39 (39392-39393) if its a Mikado and it will be in DB or DRG Livery with either a DB Witte Deflector or if DRG a Wagner Deflector and also it maybe Prussian Green as well

The 39 is a mikado.
Could also be one in grey "photo anstrich".
But a Prussian and/or a DRG with Wagner deflectors is surely a possibility.
Still guessing, we will know in a few days.

MHI is an autonomous association of dealers, each year they vote to decide which model will be produced in a single one time limited edition....This association is also the authorized network to sell those models...

Wow! A new F7! I must... drool... have... it.

I really hope it´s an A-B-B unit and some nice cars to go with it. But it will propably be another A-B-A unit train like the 37624.

Among the items that have leaked, a Swiss Freight Set, supposedly with a Re 4/4II (Re 420) is mentioned. It is not clear whether this will be a Re 420 in Cargo colours or perhaps a new model in red.
I guess that we will have to wait a few weeks for the official release of all the information about the New Items.

Other candidates for coming Swiss models would include Re 4/4I in red, 6 unit RAe Gottardo (50th Anniversary of the Gottardo) as well as the Ae 6/6 with the modified wipers and railings in red.

Regards

Mike C

UPDATE

I can confirm that a new Re 6/6 will be coming this year. The model can be found in the database, using this link: http://medienpdb.maerkli...es/1/pdf/37322_explo.pdf
OPEN LINK USING "OPEN IN NEW TAB" (MAC) or Right Click "Open In New Tab" (PC)
I cannot yet confirm the livery, but the page shows a lok with rectangular headlights and UIC railing, same as 37321. I think red is most likely.

Regards

Mike C
