I'm thinking exactly the same thing. Everything points to that. Especially because currently it seems there is not much in new updates announced for Ecos (reading their forum), it could very well be that they (ESU) are working hard on the update for CS.
I also don't think it is a coincidence that just now that pc support is becoming available for ecos, M announces pc support for CS.
As an Ecos owner I can only hope that if there is an agreement it also includes the right to use mfx on the ecos. Otherwise I might need to switch to CS in the future

In previous posts it is noted that there is both a hardware and software update. There is also a post that the software update will be available for download and free.
If I were to read between the lines and take a wild guess, this is what I think could happen (it is just a guess). The software update will be available over the internet and free, the hardware upgrade will cost the customer. The hardware upgrade can be done by sending your CS to your dealer and the required modules be plugged in and verified to work along with the software being upgraded. Customer pays shipping, cost to do upgrade and cost of parts. Upgrade modules will be avialable as spare parts so we could order them and plug them in update software and have all the latest features for the CS. If you just apply the software update then you get some of the features or improvements, when you apply the modules when available then you will get all the features that the software update can provide.
The above note is just my wild guess and should not be taken as actual fact. When the upgrades are available to the public we will then know for sure what gets done and how.
Maxi.

Exactly my opinion - but IF ESU is working on the update - I guess they won't need to work hard... Just enable the mfx-part for the CS and disable DCC (bet it's programmed with compiler switches to enable/disable options) and use the (in april) current version. ECoS and CS will be (almost) the same with only protocol difference.

The Belgian importer of ESU already confirmed to me that mfx is disabled on ecos using compile switches when I asked him whether mfx was unlockable.
Maybe we should ask ESU directly on their forum if there is anything changed regarding the relation with Marklin and the possibility of mfx on Ecos.

Maxi,
Latest I know is that if the customer desires the hardware upgrade (S-88 module addition), he will have to return the unit to the dealer. But the hardware and upgrade itself are free.

Once the actual time comes we will know for sure, but if the upgrade process is free (aside from postage) then I don't mind sending mine in since it is just sitting in a box right now. I will continue to use my 6021 setup on my current layout.
I did post in a different message that it is always good to have more than one control unit if the finances are there. I will never sell my current fleet of controllers just for this very scenario.

The good news is for all of us who waited with the purchase there will be a better product available soon. The s88-feedback and route control are essential for automation of the layout. Computer control enabled is also an important possibility. If the rumours are true about the "sniffer", this could be used for connecting old 6021 and accessories. I hope soo!

Yes, because on yours it's possible to access with full rights with no password, hence with a good chance to screw up things and then they decided to fix this; it must be one of the very first.

Does anyone know if the update includes the ability to control the 7286 turntable, the 7051 crane, and the new generation cranes, with the appropriate decoders?

With two Delta modules you can control the crane digitally right now:

Frankie, Thanks for the link, unfortunately it does not work. I'm already aware that you can use delta decoders to control the crane - there is another post in this forum detailing how a member performed this conversion.
However, I would still like to know if support for these devices is being included in the CS update.

David- I asked Dr. Tom Catherall of Märklin USA when I last saw him about CS support for the turntable and he told me that he did not forsee that coming within the next six months. He told me that the TT decoder has different protocol than the two types currently supported by the CS. The crane has yet another protocol. Märklin is working on the issue however, and eventually you will see four types of decoders listed on CS screen where you choose the decoder type, the two currently displayed, the TT decoder, and the Crane decoder.

It is definitely an Internet download:
http://stummi.foren-city...direkt-von-maerklin.html
The hardware will be an add on, underneath the CS there are two plastic covers, if you remove them there are two connectors similar to an IDE (hard disk) connector.
The hardware upgrade will be connected here, but it's only needed if you want S88 and so forth.

Quite (a lot!) interesting is that they are also working in mini-c-sine upgrade to the existing loks, to correct the known existing problems.
It seems Märklin is living up to its reputation and standards! Very good news indeed.
It seems my current investment in Systems hardware is a good one. That makes me happy!

Luis,
I can fully confirm what Mr. Sigl wrote there; by the results of my conversation with Mr. Kern and other responsible Märklin managers. We concluded for example from our common experiences with the Porsche Lok and what needs to and will be done. As I mentioned already some time ago there exist several versions of the C-Sine driver pcb. The root causes have now been identified and thus it's just a matter of (short) time until the problem is finally resolved - remember, not all models experience these problems, not even equally (which is understandable if one knows their "hardware composition").
You can see now really how badly the former owners inhibited all the progress that we luckily see now again.
Oh - btw - I have already ordered my E50!

Great again, Lutz!
What is the root cause then? Is it just software/firmware related?
BTW, what do you mean with that "previous owners" remark? Were they blocking product support funds?

Hello Goofy!
Don't be disapointed, but according to Märklin the CS upgrade will be available in april/may. Your new CS will be the same CS as the old one.

The CS has not been uppgrade...! [V]
But,it has been some changed anyway from the last CS i did had for about 2 years ago...
Goods news anyway...
This time CS has been better too, like that there is 2 lighting LED´s behind of CS for the "Ethernet" connection, one red and one green.
My last time old CS,there was not in case.
Hobbystore did said, that to uppgrade will been at April/May and it don´t cost anyway at all...!Which is good news...
And besides,i don´t need to return back my CS to fix it.
I see forward in about 2 months and see what it happens from Marklin byself...
I did testing my steamlocomotiv nr:39010 and it works GREAT...! [:p]
Next week it will been an hobbymarket in mine hometown, which we can meet several hobbystore under the same roof,so i shall asking if somebody nows anymore about CS...!
Have a nice weekend...!

Hi there,
Following some thoughts in this topic, does anyone know a serious answer to: why marklin will do a CS for AC (the actual) and another one for Trix? (DCC)
Isn't this really weird? Just think the time consuming issues regarding development and prodution at the factory with two different products... (for the two *most* important products in a digital system)
... or ... they'll be almost the same inside? [;-)]

Pedro, I guess there will not be much difference between the Marklin and Trix CS's. I should imagine the differnces would be only in the software options that are enabled in each unit, but the base code would be fairly much the same.
Goofy, your CS versions are the same as my 14 month old CS. Has your dealer been hiding this one out the back somewhere??

So after reading all this I still do not understand:
To get an upgraded Marklin CS, for those of us who do not have any, should I wait and how long?
And what US dealer can provide it?
Also can someone give me a link in English explainig what S88 is and all the other central station stuff?
Thank you.

The Marklin catalogue gives a good explanation of digital systems and also shows in detail how the various parts connect.
As to when the update for the CS will be only Marklin and Lutz will know
but it should be fairly soon.
Cant help with dealers other than in Germany where I buy by mail for the better prices. I suggest you wait at present although if you really want to go ahead now then you will be able to update the present CS.
David
Take care I like Marklin and will defend the worlds greatest model rail manufacturer.

Thank you.
Could be as quickly as NOW.
One of our dutch dealers reported that he has received a new batch of CS's earlier this week straight from Goeppingen that have the sniffer/s88 ports installed as well as the new version of software.

Hans

Hans, pictures please! and scans of users manual (english section)
And/Or
- Version level of software/hardware
- Feature list
Very interested in any of those "loose sheets" of instructions that highlight things not to do (bombs, thumbs-down and crosses) and prerequisites.

Goofy, as I said before, they sold you whatever item they had in stock, they were probably glad to get rid of it. Now you will have to wait like the rest of us.

Faith has nothing to do with it. I have zero faith, hence my request for some tangible evidence rather than rummour and speculation that just take up time and bandwidth.
