Hello,
I would like to build an American layout with next to it an European layout, all at our attic.
What is the best way to build an US-station for a small town with trains of 30 cars stopping in the station? I also like a big engine shed in the area.

Maybe, if you have some pictures from your own layout (about the same as the discription), I would like to see them.

Thank you already..

Jasper, you might take a look at the Walther's website for ideas and various models
of US stations and engine sheds. Also try a Google search for "HO layouts". There are probably hundreds of sites on the web with many great pictures and ideas.

For building a small operating layout or something larger, you can
find a good selection of versatile diagrams at

Welcome to the forum, UP-BIGBOY.

As mentioned by Joe, Walthers Cornerstore kits would probably fit almost all your needs in US Layout buldings.

The most appropriate US station according to your description would be the Union Station with some accessories :

Anyway, it would be definitively interesting for you to buy a copy of the HO Walthers Catalogue.

There are also some other topics on this forum that are related to some Walthers Cornerstore products :

I hope this will be of use for your project.

union station would be for a medium to small US city. maybe he means 30 or so freight cars - I don't think any passenger trains ever pulled more than maybe 12 cars, and those were the ones like the NYC-Chicago trains.

the walthers catalog will have many different kits for other small town stations.
most small towns had one - or two parallel tracks coming in. some had a covered platform, others not. these station buildings were often not very big, about the size of a small house in many parts of the US, especially the mroe rural or small towns.
this website may have a few examples of stations and shops for you to pattern after.

You are right. Trains with more than 12 cars are very rare in North America. So must the 30 cars be splited in 4 trains to be realistic and then at least 4 parallel tracks would be required for the station.

Thanks for the link as well.

Pierre.

Pierre,

I forgot to tell you that it is about a freight train[B)]. At this moment I've only got 4 U.S.-freight trains and now U.S.-passenger train(s).
