I recently purchased a 60905 decoder but lack installation instructions to convert a Diesel V160 (Maerklin 3075). If anyone has done this previously or can suggest a reference, I would be greatful.

The 60905 decoder (are you sure about the number?) is intended for DC motors only and cannot be used with the 3075 directly...

It is the 60904 kit that should be used for conversion of 3075, not the 60905. I have made one conversion with the 60904 kit (a 3067) and
I found the instructions coming with the kit quite straight forward. In a previous thread, the following web page showing a 60904 conversion was recommended: http://www.floodland.nl/trein/test_6.htm

Thanks for your response; no, I'm not certain about the number. I checked the decoder but aside from "Maerklin made in Germany" I can not see any numbers imprinted. The sales person in Munich gave me the small booklet (60905) after I complained about the lack of installation instructions. Since I raised the issue several days after the purchase with a different sales person and just prior to returning to the States, it is posssible that he mistakenly gave me the wrong booklet.
Is it possible to confirm the model number by physical inspection?

Thanks for your help.

Paul,
the 60905 I think contains only a decoder, the 60904 kit includes also two rotors, and two magnets, beside the decoder. So, if you have only the decoder, (which should lack a black cable) it's not directly usable for the loco you have in mind.

Regards,
Lars Westerlind.

The 60904 kit only includes one magnet, but otherwise Lars is right. If you only got the decoder, it could be either 60905 which is suitable for an other kind of motor ("Glockenancker"), or the 60902 which is only the decoder part of the 60904 kit.

Lars -
many thanks for your response, obviously I bought the wrong kit in an attempt to save a few Dollars. I will either let the local Maerklin dealer in Dallas supplement whatever I may need or wait 'til my next visit to Munich in '03.

All the best, Paul
