Hi all,

Another topic regarding a couple of locos I got from a cousin of mine. Along with these there came a couple of turners, some buildings an a trafo, not to forget som waggons.

Anyway: I am rebuilding these to "modern standard" (whatever that is) meaning digital and upgrading motors. They are an old 3000 and a 3048. Very heavy so presumably from the late 50's or early 60's.

From the local shop in Oslo I have got all I need for the 3000 model, decoder and engine, so no problem with that one.

However, the 3048 represents a challenge. I was told that the engine could be kept as no replacement was available. I therefore got a decoder from them.

Now the tricky bit:
I have bought a permanent magnet ESU 51960 to replace the original one. That should fit as I have noted that from other articles published here and on Youtube. I presume it would then be all right to remove the old changing meccanism and couple up the decoder as per instructions from the 3000 model.

The light bulbs: Do they have to be insulated from the chassis to avoid unstable function? Any idea how to convert to LED?

What do you think about that? All help most appreciated.
Attached some photos from the track and loco 3048 as it is today.

Take care all of you and stay away from Corona. Stay in your "workshop" and keep fresh.

Personally I would wire the lights insulated from the chassis frame, especially if using M track. Led's would be anyway.

Thanks for tip and point taken. Insulating the bulb and the wire from the decoder to the bottom of the bulb. Is that all I need?

Kind regards

And yes, there is the part number for a 5 pole conversion, always better than the HAMO magnet IMHO.
