At last count, I'm not sure, but between the older coaches from my father and the new coaches I've picked up last year, about 70 all tolled. Both T.E.E. (Roco) Rheingold (Maerklin) and the good old "Thunderboxes". Now if only I could put a decoder into my cars to give them the sound of banging buffers together

Congratulations Stephen, nice set.
Here is a useful link for anyone who wishes to imporve the lighting for 42990 or 42991.

I don't think I will bother, but worth sharing.

Hi Nev,
That is a really nice set of 428**.
They would look OK for any era after III too.

This 4125 SBB restaurant car turned up this morning:
It has lights, and they do work but don't show up too well in the photo. Not bad for €20.

Nice photos........thanks for sharing.
I have some wonderful passenger coaches and coach sets! My favorites are my TRIX Twin Pullman coaches (tin plate with lights), My Era I and II Nebenbahn and K.Bay.Sts.B coach sets, as well as 2 Rheingold sets. My Swiss sets are lovely also.
Not enought time and space to run them all!!

It has Relex, but I've shortened the couplers with the technique detailed elsewhere on here (basically drilling a new hole in the coupler to bring it closer). As a result, it's close coupled and will still cope with being propelled through reverse curves providing you keep the speed down.

4169 and 4091 arrived today. Both are absolutely perfect, I think the 4091 even has the original tissue paper wrapping in the box.
This is a 4091.1, one of the first Marklin plastic coaches.

They do come up on ebay fairly often. These two came from "Modellbahn-Paradies Erfstadt"
http://stores.ebay.de/mo...lbahn-paradies-erftstadt
and cost around €14 each. Postage was €17 to the UK but that's the same no matter how many items you buy and seems to get you DHL's priority service, so not too terrible if you buy a couple of items.
Good ebay store - if they have anything you like the look of then go for it, these turned up in under a week which isn't bad considering the distances involved.

Dear Matt
Thanks for the link, it seems very interesting.
I got yesterday from a local collector one in my wish list. It is the 1st. class coach for express trains 4027.1
2nd. hand, no box, very small scratches, price equivalent to € 22.18

4153 is here - it doesn't look as though it has ever been used, the wheels are spotless and all the original packaging is present (tissue paper and a card insert to stop the pantograph getting squashed)

Thanks Ray - I've got a 4147 on the way too in similar condition.
Weirdly it seems that there is a lot more interest in 42xx coaches than the older 41xx types - I also have 4294/5/6 on my wish list but they seem to go for about the same prices as new coaches. I could get the TEE Bavaria coach pack for not much more than 4295/6!

Matt, I think it's to do with the 40xx and 41xx not having close couplers. People are prepared to pay a lot more for the close coupling.
I personally don't mind these coaches having the original spacing between them. I think it's part of the original charm.

I just trim the couplers - they look like this on a straight:
and they'll still go around R1 curves without any problems:
How the couplers are trimmed - modified one on the right:

Nice trick, Matt. Unfortunately it doesn't work on all coaches. My 4092 has an earlier type of coupler connected to the bogie by a metal arm which is crimped over the coupler. I wouldn't like to mess with it too much.

Yep, my 4091/3/4 all have that type of coupler, hence why I haven't done anything to them. I wouldn't mind buying later versions of them that could be converted, but my budget's a bit too tight to buy duplicate coaches!

Those are nice - will they go around R1 curves? I know they're 1:87 scale length.

I check on Trix website database and it said 'Minimum radius for operation 360mm'

R1 is OK only when there are no siganal masts or catenary masts.

Thanks both, might have to have a look for some of those!
I was looking for a set of the Kato/Hobbytrain N scale ones but by the time I had the money together they'd sold out. I like oddball coaches like these.

Here are the first two of my '70s pop coaches:
4091
4092
For some reason the bogies are grey on the 4091 and black on the 4092. I wonder why?
Still waiting for 4093 and 4094 to arrive.

Maybe Marklin were short of black plastic at the time?
My 4091 definitely has black bogies, so it seems that you have a production error of some sort. I know that grey M-D bogies were made for the 4066 coach, but AFAIK those had a different design of bogie to the 4091-4.
