Got my Restaurant and Bar cars (42972/42973) for my TEE Sudwind set. Just finished lighting and populating them and got them on the layout. The 103 plus six coaches JUST fits in my station.

and a night shot:

And a few in the station:

Plus a little video of the TEE coming out of the station:

(I noted in viewing this that I need to straighten up one catenary mast) [:I]

@Ron,

nice layout.
Btw, how many "Bar" coaches do you have in that one consist?

Getting back to the original theme, how many coaches do you have?
How many coaches is too many?

I have a small collection of 24cm metal coaches and my 1960s SBB Set
I have a number of 26.4 and 27cm coaches from the 1980s to today.
I have a large collection of 1:87 coaches from Roco, Rivarossi, Lima, RailTop, LS Models, Heris, Hag and other brands
I have now added some of the Maerklin 1:93.5 and 1:87 (SBB LS) coaches.

The older coaches see the occasional run on my test track. The 1:87 coaches are waiting for the day I have a layout. The newer 1:93.5 coaches I bought a few just to check them out.

Add them up and either way you look at it, it is probably too many.

Regards

Mike C

I leaned into it when I was pulling the "plug" (removable section of scenery) to do some work ont he layout. Forgot to straighten it up until I saw the video. Fixed now.

I recall reading that the bar and restaurant cars weren't usually found in the same train - the bar could provide snacks as well as drinks, so for trains where a full meal service wasn't required the bar would be used alone.

Matt hi,

Restaurant and bar wagons could be on the same TEE consist, but panaroma and bar wagons not; because panaroma wagons had a bar too.

I plan to keep both in the train, however I may move the Bar car further down the train.

Just noted that, Mike. Only the one. The others are either open seating or compartment coaches. The first one is actually an old tinplate coach I converted to NEM pockets for my CC couplers. Since the lok was converted to NEM pockets for the same reason, if I hook one of the newer coaches directly to the lok the buffers interfere on anything tighter than R3. One of the things on my list is to see if I can lengthen the coupler arms on the lok to eliminate this problem. until then I need to keep the old coach as the first in the consist.

Very nice, Ron.

I have done the same to my bar and restaurant. I control the power supply to the connected coaches from the restaurant car. The decoder in the restaurant car is replaced by a 60961, so I use f1 for the power to the other cars (B via a relay), f2 as original for the pantograph, f3 for the whistle and f4 for the light in the restaurant.
f1 also switch on the light in the restaurant's kitchen. Light ON in the train = passangers in the train = kitchen must prepare food.

Fair enough - I was basing my comment on a site that seemed to be very serious about TEE consists but they might well have been referring to one train in particular rather than all. Looks like I'll need a 4294 if I ever buy the Sudwind 2nd class coach pack to go with the 1sts and bar car I already have. The current restaurant car is gorgeous but £100 is far too much for a single coach in my opinion even if it does have lots of neat electronics. Besides which, for that money it should come with digitally controlled interior lighting and current conducting couplers wired to the same function output, so it can power and control lighting in the rest of the train.

I get the power from the lok, but same principal. I agree that the car is rather pricey, and the operating panto is to me a rather useless feature. The conductor's whistle is really lame, too.

Hello,

I recently received my RailTop ADmpsz 1st Class with baggage compartment, completing my OBB EC Transalpin consist, which I run with either a Re 460 or Re 4/4II.

I also have the earlier versions (red/black) which I run with a Roco 44963 and 44769 Panorama coach, representing the same consist from a few years back.

I have used www.reisezuege.ch to determine the exact composition of my trains.

If you have the chance to get your hands on any of these RailTop OBB coaches, they are well worth the price. I will try to post a photo of the train in the near future.

This means that for the moment, my Roco OBB Eurofima coaches are relegated to second tier. I also have one set of Maerklin OBB EC Coaches (42725) which I illuminated for night use. The shortened coaches look better in the dark, because I can run more coaches in each train and the details don't stand out as much in the dark.
But, the Maerklin coaches can't hold a candle to the Roco or RailTop ones during the day.

Regards

Mike C

I should have the Fleischmann 5666 before too long, despite the behaviour of Fleischmann Direct. I wouldn't advise anyone else to buy from them, here's what happened to me:

July 5th: Ordered coach, received confirmation and payment was taken on the 7th. Ten days later no parcel, so I email them to ask for an update only to be told "We're on holiday until the 21st". Another ten days pass after the 21st, still nothing so I emailed them this morning. Mysteriously a despatch email has just arrived. I'm not impressed with their service, particularly their taking payment the best part of a month before despatching the goods.

I will be paying the extra to buy from Model Masters in future. Their shop and mail order services have been exemplary in my experience.

5666 has (finally) turned up:

I've thought about buying the steuerwagen to match, but the idea of spending that much on a coach that I'll have to modify to use on Marklin (would need to add a slider, headlight changeover mechanism and rewire) doesn't appeal.

Were they Marklin coaches?
I notice that Roco put out a nice range of ex Wurtemburg coaches, era III, that go perfectly with the Class C (I guess that is Class 18.1 = M #37115 in era III),
See 45493-7 http://www.roco.cc/index.php?id...&Anfangsposition=135
Roco don't seem to have a baggage car to match.

I've got the ones in your 2nd and 3rd pictures Joe, very nice they are too. winkwink (BTW Nev, Dion has these in stock).

I just got the 2 addon cars for the Tee Rheinpfel set too, that makes that train into a 6 car set.

too late for that ifo David, I have the four of them.

They are nice but on my small layout the do look a bit odd against the other carriages (1/100). Nice though.
Big gripe, cannot fit passengers into the Dining Car Tables. Have to disect them vertically as well as amputate them above the hips.

These coaches look stunning. What is the model number? I want to buy them. I also saw the thread on which loco to use on these. This probably will be my first HAG train.

GAutham,
The old HAG numbers were
AG 3 Car BLS Passenger set. Blue and cream cars, part numbers 463(x2) and 453 Thundersee. (the one with the Boat.)
I have fitted lights and Passengers. Look great. run great.
I am pulling them with a RE4/6 but will get the correct one. (One day)
new numbers are:
the one with the Boat 52 004
the others range from 52 002, 52 024, 52 030, 52 026.
No longer available. HAG had problems with their Moulds. so have to search for the old ones. they do not come up very often. I was lucky.
Look at the HAG Web Site www.hag.ch

Sadly Nev
